Job Title Senior Environmental Technical Claims Specialist Employment Details Employment Type: Full-Time FLSA Status: Exempt Location: In-Office Summary We are looking for a highly capable Senior Environmental Technical Claims Specialist to join our team and work from any one of the following offices: Albany, Chicago, Los Angeles, New York City, Omaha, Richmond (VA), Rockwood (PA), or Springfield (MO). Alternatively, we are open to consider candidates working from home anywhere in the continental United States. This individual will report to a manager in New York City and is focused on adjudicating first and third party commercial environmental claims (mostly complex storage tank claims) and contributing to providing superb results for our clients. This is a 100% in‑office position. Candidates must be able to work on‑site at a designated company office during standard business hours. Essential Responsibilities Work under limited oversight and broad management direction to adjudicate commercial environmental claims at the highest authority limits with high technical complexity. Conduct detailed information gathering, analysis, and investigation to find solutions to numerous undefined issues. Report to senior management and underwriters on claims trends and developments. Analyze claims forms, policies, endorsements, client instructions, and other records to determine policy coverage. Investigate claims promptly and thoroughly, including interviewing all involved parties. Manage claims in litigation. Manage diary, ensuring timely and complete tasks so cases move to the best financial outcome and resolution. Properly set claim reserves, taking into account how different policy wordings impact the reserving process. Identify loss drivers and claim trends to reduce frequency and severity through data analysis and improved claim management. Identify, assign, and coordinate assignment and coordination of expertise resources to assist in case resolution. Prepare reports for file documentation. Apply creative solutions to achieve best financial outcome. Negotiate in a timely and effective manner to give cost‑effective solutions within own limits using a range of styles. Process mail and prioritize workload. Complete telephone calls and correspondence to/from parties. Have appreciation and passion for strong claim management. Qualifications / Experience Required Deep knowledge of commercial environmental claims typically acquired through experience. Minimum of seven years adjudicating commercial environmental claims with exposure of $100,000 or more. Bachelor's degree from an accredited university required. Two or more insurance designations or four additional years of related experience may substitute a degree. Licensed Claims Examiner (state based) or ability to obtain license in each jurisdiction requiring a license within 120 days. Good business acumen, understanding of insurance business impact. Excellent communication skills and ability to build lasting relationships. Excellent evaluation and strategic skills. Strong claim negotiation skills with a proactive and pragmatic approach. Strong customer focus. Effective time management and prioritization while handling multiple tasks. Ability to articulate financial value of work to stakeholders up to CEO level. Ability to exercise discretion and independent judgment. Strong inner strength and courage to do the right thing daily. Strong execution focus, proven ability to deliver results, find success through adversity. Solution oriented, global mindset. Client focus and ability to determine specific client needs. Flexibility, resourcefulness, thrive in fast paced evolving environment. Ability to develop and maintain productive relationships with clients, partners, peers. Natural and intellectual curiosity, exploring all options. Employ listening and questioning techniques for gathering information. Understanding of mechanisms for resolving claim settlement disputes such as arbitration and mediation. Proficiency in MS Office Suite and business software. Polished written and verbal communication skills. Fluent English reading and writing. Desire for continued professional development through continuing education. Salary and Benefits Colorado (outside Denver metro), Delaware, Illinois (outside Chicago metro), Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts (outside Boston metro), Minnesota, Nevada, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia : $99,200 - $118,100 Boston metro area, California (outside Los Angeles & San Francisco metro), Connecticut, Chicago metro, Denver metro, New Jersey (outside New York City metro), New York State (outside New York City metro), Washington DC metro, Washington State : $109,200 - $129,900 NewYork City, LosAngeles and SanFrancisco metro areas : $119,100 - $141,800 Base salary ranges are geographic specific; base salary commensurate with experience.
