Registered Nurse RN

Job Title

The Registered Nurse (RN) is responsible for providing skilled nursing services as prescribed by the physician authorized plan of care and accepted standards of evidence based nursing practice. The RN provides direct patient care including medication administration, treatments, education, call lights, assisting with transfers, responding to alarms, and other duties as appropriate. The RN evaluates the effectiveness of treatment plan and makes suggestions or participates in updating/revising the treatment plan in collaboration with other team members, utilizing current information to improve patient care. The RN is knowledgeable and compliant with all local, state and federal regulations and guidelines as well as hospital specific policies and procedures relating to care provided in the medical center.

Other duties and responsibilities include demonstrating the MyMichigan Health mission, vision and values; behaving in a courteous, professional manner at all times with patients, visitors, and co-workers; demonstrating the ability to interpret information and reports pertinent data to the physician; educating patient/family according to assessed learning needs considering readiness, ability, preferences, and cultural / spiritual variables; demonstrating the ability to organize and prioritize the needs of groups of patients or an individual patient; demonstrating a general ability to manage assignments and perform routine duties on the unit. Instructs other team members when appropriate, explaining goals and rationale for individualized care; demonstrating understanding of clinical pathways and utilizing appropriately; maintaining a professional demeanor in all situations; documenting in an accurate, clear, and concise way and includes pertinent clinical data. Shares information and reports significant changes and/or abnormal findings to appropriate team members in a timely manner; participating in regulatory surveys; participating in the performance improvement activities; assisting with orientation and ongoing competencies; providing a safe and secure environment for patient care; maintaining knowledge with current trends and professional standards within a specialty; demonstrating understanding of role in emergency preparedness procedures; setting up and assisting with central line and chest tube insertion and care for these tubes according to policy and procedure. Inserts cantor tubes, nasogastric tubes, and feeding tubes per physician order, following proper procedure. Inserts and provides care for IV's. Provides routine care and instruction of SP catheters and surgical drains following physician order. Provides proper care for drains and removal of same; removing sutures and skin clips, provides routine ostomy care and irrigates and packs wounds, following physician order, procedure and care plan; doing accurate CVP reading, according to physician order and following proper procedure. Sets up, instructs and monitors use of PCA; obtaining doppler pulses following proper procedure. Provides routine care of gastrostomy/jejunostomy tubes according to procedure and physician orders. Assists in heparin therapy protocol per procedures; applying basic traction, splints, braces, and CPM machines following procedure and physician order; putting and trimming casts, removes wound drains following physician order and procedure; maintaining total hip and total knee precaution measures and instructs patients.

Credential: ACLS: Advanced Cardiac Life Support

Equivalent Experience: Within 12 months of hire or transfer

Credential: RN: Registered Nurse

Credential: DIMC: Dysrhythmia Interpretation Man

Equivalent Experience: Telemetry Competency through testing or Telemetry Monitoring & Management class with passing score within 12 months of hire.

Required Education

Education: ASSOC

Equivalent Experience: Associate's degree in Nursing required, Bachelor's degree in Nursing preferred.
