Accounting Clerk 2

Job Summary The Iowa Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), Division of State-Operated Specialty Care, Bureau of Independence Mental Health Institute (IMHI) is seeking an Accounting Clerk 2 to join our full‑time team Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. with occasional overtime. The role will support the Institute’s Business Office by ensuring smooth financial operations. Responsibilities In this role you will lead monthly insurance billing for patients’ responsible parties, oversee patient banking activities, manage fixed assets, and maintain up‑to‑date records for the Institute’s vehicle fleet. You will prepare detailed financial reports for internal and external partners and provide essential support during the annual financial statement audit. Requirements Graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalency and two years of clerical accounting experience, including compilation, tabulation, examination, verification, or recording of financial data using elementary bookkeeping principles. OR completion of a post‑high school vocational/technical, business college, or community college curriculum in accounting with at least twenty semester hours in accounting. OR an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of clerical office work for each year of required education. OR substitution of thirty semester hours or equivalent in a post‑high school business, accounting, or closely related curriculum for each year of required experience. OR any equivalent combination of qualifying education or experience. OR current continuous experience in the state executive branch that includes the equivalent of twelve months of full‑time work as an Accounting Clerk 1.
