General Liability Technical Specialist

Job Overview Position: Claim Compensation – General Liability (Bodily Injury & Property Damage claims) Salary Range: $85,600.00 – $141,200.00 (annual base) as part of a comprehensive compensation and benefits program. Performance‑based cash incentive awards may also apply. Responsibilities Investigate, evaluate, reserve, negotiate and resolve assigned severe General Liability claims. Provide quality claim handling throughout all stages: customer contact, coverage analysis, investigation, reserving, litigation management, negotiation and resolution. Maintain full compliance with internal quality standards, state regulations and external oversight. Act as a technical resource for field and business partners, offering consulting, training and best‑practice guidance. Identify, select and engage appropriate internal or external resources (subrogation, risk control, medical consultants, fraud investigators, etc.) necessary for thorough claim evaluation. Verify injury and property damage through records review and documentation. Document all claim file activities according to established procedures and use evaluation documentation tools. Proactively review Claim File Analysis (CFA) for quality standards and trend analysis. Use diary management system to ensure timely claim handling. Regularly evaluate liability and damages exposure, establish and maintain proper indemnity and expense reserves. Recommend cases for discussion at roundtables, attend / present at authority discussions to improve claim outcomes. Develop and employ creative resolution strategies, negotiating dispositions with insureds, claimants or their legal representatives. Manage litigated claims, developing litigation plans, tracking and controlling legal expenses, and attending all necessary legal proceedings (depositions, mediations, arbitrations, trials, etc.). Perform any other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelor’s Degree. Minimum 3 years of bodily injury liability claim handling and/or litigation experience. Strong knowledge of coverage, contract interpretation, liability and damages analysis, and the litigation process, including relevant case and statutory law. Extensive claim and/or legal experience with technical expertise to evaluate severe and complex claims. Independent decision‑making ability on most assigned cases. In-depth understanding of business line products, policy language, exclusions, ISO forms and effective claim handling practices. Strong negotiation, customer‑service, written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with business technology tools for research, tracking and communication.
