Job Description

This role focuses on performing high-quality MIG welding and fitting on hot-rolled steel to fabricate tanks and related structures. You will read and interpret structural blueprints and weld symbols, fit and weld units directly from prints, and collaborate closely with a small team of fitter welders. The position offers stable, long-term work with opportunities for overtime and exposure to a variety of metals and fabrication projects.

Responsibilities

• Perform MIG welding on hot-rolled steel for the fabrication of tanks and structural components.

• Read and interpret structural blueprints and weld symbols to fit and weld units accurately from prints.

• Set up, fit, and align components in preparation for welding according to specifications and drawings.

• Work with a variety of materials including hot-rolled steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and other exotic metals as required.

• Execute occasional one-off or custom fabrication projects while maintaining quality and precision.

• Collaborate with a team of 2–3 fitter welders to complete projects efficiently and safely.

• Follow established fabrication and industrial fitting practices to ensure structural integrity and adherence to standards.

• Maintain reliability in attendance and be willing to work overtime when needed, including extended days and some Saturdays.

• Operate welding and related fabrication equipment safely and in accordance with company procedures.

• Inspect welds and finished assemblies for quality, accuracy, and compliance with specifications.

• Contribute to a clean and organized work area and support safe work practices throughout the facility.

Essential Skills

• At least 3–4 years of experience performing MIG welding, preferably in a fabrication or structural environment.

• Strong ability to read and interpret structural blueprints and weld symbols.

• Proficiency in MIG welding on hot-rolled steel.

• Experience with industrial fitting and structural fabrication.

• Demonstrated reliability and willingness to work overtime as required.

• Ability to work effectively as part of a small team of fitter welders.

• Experience with Mig/Stick welding processes.

• Ability to work with various metals, including steel, stainless steel, aluminum, and exotic metals.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in fabrication, including structural and industrial applications.

• Experience working with exotic metals in a production or fabrication setting.

• Prior exposure to TIG welding is beneficial.

• Comfort working on one-off or custom projects in addition to standard production work.

• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing high-quality welds and assemblies.

Work Environment

The role is based in a non-climate-controlled facility consisting of two large buildings that house welding, machining, and assembly operations. The company maintains modern equipment and regularly updates machinery on approximately a 10–15-year cycle, providing access to newer tools and technology. The position follows structured shifts, with a first shift from 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and a second shift from 4:00 p.m. to 1:00 a.m. Monday through Friday. Overtime is available, including extended 9-hour workdays and potential 6-hour shifts on Saturdays for those who choose to work additional hours.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of OLATHE, KS.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $24.00/hr.
