Bus DriverTerms of Employment: 10 months/ 183 days per year. Salary is at the Auxiliary Pay Plan Aux4 on the EISD Compensation Plan. Entry level rate of pay is $17.36/hour with additional consideration based upon directly related experience. Minimum of 25 hours per week. Please see attachment below for complete description.Job Title: Bus Driver Wage/Hour Status: NonexemptReports to: Director of Transportation Pay Grade: AUX 4Primary PurposeResponsible for the safe and efficient transportation of students to and from school or other designated locations.Maintains safety of students on the bus through enforcement of safety and student standards of conduct. Performs preventive maintenance and safety checks of the bus.QualificationsEducation/Certification1. High School graduate or GED equivalent preferred 2. Valid Texas commercial driver's license CDL (Class B) 3. Valid Texas Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) Endorsements or must obtain within 30 days of employment 4. Must be 21 years of age 5. Must have satisfactory outcome of fingerprinting check prior to starting employment; non-fundable fee paid by applicant 6. Must have and maintain a satisfactory driving record as determined by the Texas Department of Public Safety that reflects a professional driver and which meets all contractual, local, state and federal requirements.7. No record of DWI or convictions for the past 10 years and acceptable driving records according to Texas Department of Public Safety standards 8. Must pass an annual physical in accordance with state law.9. Must show negative on a drug and/or alcohol test to be given on a pre-employment, random, post-accident and/or reasonable suspicion basis, in accordance with federal law and District policy.10. Must pass TEA School Bus Driver Certification Course and maintain throughout employment 11. Must be proficient in English (written and verbal) 12. Must successfully complete and remain current on trainings and certifications including CPR and First-Aid, that are offered through the department/District.13. Ability to read & interpret documents such as safety rules, operating maintenance instructions, procedure manualsExperienceNoneMajor Responsibilities and DutiesVehicle Operation 1. Operate bus and all related equipment in a safe and efficient manner, obeying all traffic laws and in accordance with the policies and procedures of the department. 2. Follow assigned routes and adhere to established schedules. 3. Provide a safe and positive riding experience for all students assigned to your bus. 4. Immediately report mechanical problems, damage to bus (interior and exterior), accidents and perform pre- trip/post-trip inspections through prescribed guidelines and procedures. Notify mechanics of needed repairs by completing the necessary repair order. 5. Keep assigned bus clean and fueled, check bus for mechanical defects before/after each operation, and report needed repairs to maintenance. 6. Document all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries and mechanical failures and complete all required reports.Student Management 1. Maintain good rapport with students, parents, guardians, campus administration and co-workers. 2. Manage student behavior and report student discipline problems to appropriate campus administrator and submit Bus Incident Reports, as required 3. Load and unload students from the bus following prescribed guidelines and procedures. 4. Learn and adapt to each student's special medical, physical, communicative, and emotional needs. 5. Lift and carry students with disabilities on and off the bus according to their individual needs 6. Secure students in seats, wheelchairs, or other devices used for the safe transport of students 7. Instruct students on bus rules/regulations and procedures to safely board, ride, and depart bus and cross the street.Safety 1. Instruct students on safe entering, exiting, and riding rules and regulations. 2. Secure students in bus as necessary. 3. Perform emergency evacuation of students on bus if necessary. 4. Observe and stay abreast current of all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses. 5. Complete pre and post inspection of the bus by checking fuel, oil, water, tires, lights, brakes, and steering to ensure bus can be operated safely before driving. 6. Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, and body fluid kit. 7. Correct unsafe conditions in work area that could cause an accident and inform supervisor of any conditions that are not immediately correctable. 8. Assist with securing appropriate child safety restraint systems. 9. Report any conditions that impact route to include hazardous and safety related situations immediately. 10. Must perform emergency evacuation of students on bus if needed: walking to rear of bus, exiting the rear door and/or lifting students in emergency situations.Other 1. Must demonstrate professionalism in one's communications and interactions with children/students, parents, school personnel, and coworkers. 2. Maintain a consistent professional demeanor and appear 3. Ability to follow written and verbal instructions. 4. Effective reading, writing, and mathematical skills to complete necessary forms, reports, and interpret maps. 5. Operate communication equipment to communicate with transportation office, campuses or district police. 6. Available to work AM and PM school routes, field trips and other assignments. Work irregular hours as needed. 7. Attend and complete required training program to maintain safety certification. 8. Keep records of bus mileage, gas and oil consumption to include number of passengers transported. 9. Must check mailbox and email on a regular basis. 10. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential job function. 11. Work positions include kneeling and climbing, with extended reach above head (12 inches) and extended reach in front of body (14 inches).8. Load and unload vehicle, lifting and pulling up to 20 pounds on hand device while operating the service door, opening and closing 15-60 times per shift.9. Operate the vehicle in all climatic conditions.10. Climb in and out of bus, through service door, 5-15 times per shift.11.
