Collections Management Program Coordinator (Administrative Analyst/Specialist Non-Exempt)

Overview Position Summary San Diego State University is seeking a Collections Management Program Coordinator to support our NAGPRA (Native American Graves Protection and Repatriation Act)/Collections Management Program Director. This role offers the opportunity to lead day-to-day operations, guide student workers, and contribute to meaningful NAGPRA-related activities in a professional curation facility. Responsibilities Program Oversight: Handle day-to-day activities of NAGPRA/Collections Management Program and delegate tasks to graduate assistants and student workers. Support NAGPRA Compliance: Assist Tribe-appointed representatives in conducting NAGPRA reviews of collections, prepare documentation for collections undergoing the NAGPRA process, and prepare collections for repatriation. Maintain National Curation Standards: Monitor all Collections Management facilities and practices to ensure curation standards are met. Position Information This is a part-time (0.5 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated non-exempt under FLSA and is eligible for overtime compensation. This part-time position works 20 hours per week during regular business hours (8:00 a.m.–4:30 p.m., Monday–Friday). A mutually agreed-upon schedule will be established at the time of hire. The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego. Department Summary The College of Arts and Letters has 18 academic departments, 12 interdisciplinary programs, 24 centers, and one joint doctoral program. With over 475 permanent faculty and associated lecturers, the College is the largest of the seven colleges at San Diego State University and is responsible for 36% of the instruction at the University. There are approximately 60 clerical and technical employees in the college. The Dean's Office is responsible for the implementation and continued support of the instructional, research, and development processes in the college. The mission of the SDSU Archeology Collections Management Program is to preserve and curate artifacts and their associated documents for academic research, public education, and use by Native Americans and others. Archaeological collections curated at SDSU represent a significant resource for research and education. Collections Management has an active research program with opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to undertake independent studies and internships. Opportunities to learn about local archaeology, artifact identification, exhibitions, curation, and federal and state regulations are abundant. The collections management program also has an active education outreach program where experienced graduate students bring artifacts to the classroom for an interactive hands-on experience. Education And Experience Entry to this classification requires general knowledge and skills in the applicable administrative and/or program field with a foundational knowledge of public administration principles, practices, and methods. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent training and administrative work experience involving study, analysis, and/or evaluation leading to the development or improvement of administrative policies, procedures, practices, or programs. Key Qualifications Experience working in a curation facility and handling cultural items. Experience working respectfully with groups with cultural affiliation with holdings and handling cultural items in a sensitive manner. Experience with digital archives and cataloging systems. Familiarity with federal and state NAGPRA regulations. Basic familiarity with Microsoft Office, Google applications, and geographic information systems (GIS). Compensation And Benefits San Diego State University offers competitive compensation and a comprehensive benefits package designed to support your well-being and professional growth. Compensation Step placement will be determined based on relevant qualifications and professional experience, in alignment with the department’s budget and equity guidelines. Initial step placement is not expected to exceed Step 1 ($2,399.50 per month). Salary step placement for internal applicants will follow the CSUEU Collective Bargaining Agreement. CSU Classification Salary Range: $2,399.50 – $3,496 per month (Step 1 – Step 20). Future increases, including step advancements, are subject to contract negotiations.
