Department Job Description Summary Main Emergency Room on Miami Beach Monday to Friday Evening Shifts: 3P-11:30P Document a high-volume registration environment requiring strong attention to detail and the ability to work in a fast‑paced ER setting. Position Responsibilities Collects accurate patient information (legal name, address, phone, next of kin, employer, guarantor, insurance, physician, etc.) and enters it into the system within established time frames. Verifies insurance details (eligibility, benefits, deductibles, co‑payments, out‑of‑pocket costs, coverage limits, pre‑existing conditions) and obtains appropriate referrals, pre‑certifications, and authorizations for scheduled and unscheduled patients. Ensures copies of insurance cards (front and back) and a picture ID are obtained and scanned when the patient presents for service. Provides and explains all registration documents (general consent forms, advance directive information, patient rights, and privacy notice). Ensures an identification bracelet is placed on all patients after registration. Warms the patient to the appropriate area (nursing units, ancillary departments, etc.) and communicates pertinent information to the care team. Performs a self‑audit of all registration activity before the end of shift, maintaining an error ratio of less than 5% and forwarding incomplete tasks to the supervisor. Demonstrates a clear understanding of departmental needs and job functions as assigned by the manager or team leader. Employs the Compliance Advisor to verify Medicare compliance and accurately enters diagnosis codes. Ensures that each registration includes the correct procedure, diagnosis (no R/O), printed physician name and address on referrals, and doctor signature when required. Assists patients with insurance benefits and explains hospital financial policies, collects upfront deposits, and disburses revenue with 100% ledger accuracy. Maintains compliance with Patient Access processes and federal, state, and local laws (ACHA, HIPAA, Medicare, Medicaid, EMTALA, COBRA, etc.). Utilizes RMS scheduling, HPF, QCI, Avility Web MD, and RTE applications effectively. Displays flexibility and the ability to perform multiple functions within the Patient Access department. Cross‑trains on duties across various areas as assigned. Verifies authorizations for service. Qualifications High school graduate or equivalent; some college preferred. 1–3 years of practical experience in registration, collections, and insurance verification preferred. Hospital registration or physician office front desk experience. Strong attention to detail and ability to work in a fast‑paced environment.
