Senior Network Engineer Team Lead

Reporting to the Assistant Vice President of Information and Network Security, this senior-level, hands-on engineering role is responsible for designing, implementing, optimizing, and supporting the college’s statewide Wide Area Network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN). The Sr. Network Engineer Team Lead provides strategic technical direction, mentors the statewide network engineering team, and serves as the primary subject matter expert for all data and Internet services across the Ivy Tech campus network.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:Design, manage, and support statewide LAN/WAN, Internet access, disaster recovery (DR), wireless, and VPN servicesInstall, maintain, and troubleshoot routers, switches, and wireless technologiesReview and recommend enhancements to the college’s data and telecommunications infrastructure to drive continuous service improvementKeep current with evolving network hardware and software capabilities and incorporate best-practice standardsAnalyze assigned problems and develop solutions; guide the end-to-end implementation of network projectsDevelop communication plans for both planned and unplanned outagesMaintain accurate records of all maintenance, inventory, and security measures associated with the college network infrastructureMaintain high standards of quality by developing effective operational procedures and system documentationProvide mentoring leadership to the statewide network engineering teamShare expertise with peers and foster a team-oriented environmentWork effectively and diplomatically with peers, customers, and external entitiesPresent technical sessions and serve on task forces as requestedThe above list of duties is not to be construed as an exhaustive list. Bachelor’s degree preferred.Five or more years of hands-on work experience in a technical environment. Experience in higher education preferred.Extensive experience with Cisco and Juniper environmentsExtensive experience with OSPF, EIGRP, BGP, and MulticastExtensive experience with enterprise network design and architectureDemonstrated ability to evaluate and diagnose network and application performance issuesStrong network documentation skills and experience creating network diagramsExperience with QoS, VLANs, ACLs, PBR, IP SLAs, HA technologiesExperience with different types of wiring, cable types, and standardsExperience with optical multiplexing technologiesExperience with common network protocols and servicesExperience configuring and deploying different types of VPN technologiesFamiliarity with Zero Trust networking principles and network security best practices, with a willingness to help evaluate and implement a Zero Trust frameworkExperience with enterprise network management and monitoring solutionsOutstanding oral, written, and interpersonal communication skillsDESIRED SKILLS:Production experience with software-defined networksAPI network managementProduction experience with Nexus, Meraki, ACI, Mist, and UCS platformsProfessional certifications: CCNP, JNCIPIvy Tech is committed to supporting the well-being, growth, and financial security of our full-time faculty and staff.
