Our Radiation Oncology Department plays a critical role in cancer treatment by delivering precise, safe, and patient-centered radiation therapy services. We are seeking a skilled and compassionate Radiation Therapist to join our team and support patients throughout their cancer treatment journey.Position OverviewThe Radiation Therapist provides direct and indirect patient care in the Radiation Oncology Clinic by administering prescribed radiation treatments for cancer and other diseases. This role ensures accurate delivery of radiation therapy, patient safety, and high-quality clinical outcomes while maintaining compliance with regulatory and hospital standards. The Radiation Therapist works collaboratively with physicians and the oncology care team and reports directly to the Oncology Director.Key ResponsibilitiesAdminister targeted doses of radiation therapy as prescribed, ensuring accuracy and patient safetyAssist in preparing sealed radioactive materials, calculating treatment dosages, and preparing immobilization and protective equipmentDevelop and administer patient treatment plans using radiation therapy techniques and radiopharmaceuticalsVerify prescriptions, charts, calculations, and patient identity prior to treatment deliveryEnsure proper safety practices, including radiation protection and infection control standardsPerform daily quality assurance checks on equipment, including machine alignment, lasers, and interlocks, and maintain required recordsMonitor patients during treatment and provide education, instruction, and emotional support to patients and familiesAccurately document patient care and treatment information in the electronic health record in a timely mannerCoordinate care and communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team membersAssist with scheduling, answering phones, and addressing patient concerns as appropriateMaintain clinic policies, procedures, and a safe, therapeutic environmentAssist with supply management, cost containment, and training or mentoring staff as neededPerform other duties within scope of practice as assignedQualificationsEducation & LicensureRegistered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Radiation Therapy requiredLicensed (or eligible for licensure) in Medical Radiologic Technology by the Texas State Department of Health requiredBLS for Healthcare Providers requiredSkills & AbilitiesExcellent communication skills in English (verbal and written); bilingual preferredStrong interpersonal and customer service skills with a patient-centered approachHigh level of organization and ability to multitask in a clinical environmentBasic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office and OutlookAbility to safely perform physical job demands, including standing, walking, lifting, and equipment handlingWhy Uvalde Memorial Hospital?Competitive compensation and comprehensive benefitsSupportive, collaborative oncology care teamMeaningful work serving a close-knit communityOpportunity to make a direct impact on patients’ lives during critical moments of careStable hospital environment focused on quality and compassion #J-18808-Ljbffr
