Health & Safety Specialist

Position Overview Health & Safety Specialist – Full‑time, Costa Mesa, CA (field activities primarily in Carson and Wilmington, with up to 50% travel throughout the West region). As a Health & Safety Specialist, you will maintain and improve site health and safety programs for environmental and site characterization projects in the energy, real estate, industrial, and manufacturing sectors. This role requires field presence on project sites during mobilizations in the Los Angeles Area and on‑site work in the Bay Area, Pacific Northwest, and Hawaii. Duties & Responsibilities Act as a key influencer to continuously improve H&S culture and be relied upon by project team members as a valued partner. Perform risk assessments and project planning, including developing, reviewing, monitoring, and improving Site‑Specific Health and Safety Plans (HASP), Job Hazard Analyses (JHA), and other task‑specific safety documents. Operate H&S software, equipment, and other technical tools and train others in their use. Detect potentially unsafe work practices, implement countermeasures, and coach, train, and mentor team members. Ensure project teams have the health & safety tools, training, and knowledge necessary for daily operations. Oversee conformance with client‑specific H&S programs and partner with client teams during planning and delivery. Document safety observations, incidents, injuries, and near misses in a reporting tool and resolve H&S concerns. Conduct site audits and track corrective actions to closure. Deliver H&S training (monthly, onboarding, client‑specific). Minimum Skills and Requirements B.S. in Safety Engineering, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related discipline (experience may be considered in lieu of a degree). At least 5+ years of consulting experience supporting HAZWOPER environmental and site characterization projects for energy and industrial manufacturing clients. Professional registrations and certifications (CHMM, CSP, CIH, ASP, CHST, etc.) are preferred. Commitment to compliance with company and client Health & Safety protocols. Comprehensive knowledge of applicable government regulations, H&S compliance, industrial hygiene, and company policies. Valid driver’s license and clean driving record. Emotional intelligence and a collaborative mindset to engage with project teams, subcontractors, and clients. Physically fit for multiple sites and activities: working outdoors in all environments, lifting up to 50 pounds, standing, kneeling, walking for long periods, and passing a drug and alcohol test. Must wear respirators such as N95, half/full face, and supplied air when required. Preferred Skills Direct experience providing H&S support for large‑scale environmental projects. Familiarity with contaminated site management, characterization, and remediation field activities, and willingness to support field activities occasionally. Self‑directed and able to prioritize multiple tasks, initiatives, and projects effectively. Use emotional intelligence to recognize, communicate, and resolve project‑related concerns, fostering an open and supportive work environment. Strong interpersonal and relationship‑building skills to promote continuous improvement and safety culture. Excellent verbal and written communication skills for internal and external interactions. Salary Range US$85,000 – $120,000 annually (Costa Mesa, CA).
