Job Description

The Avionics Technician performs detailed bench testing, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of aircraft electronic and electrical components, ensuring all work complies with applicable technical data and regulatory requirements. This role uses advanced test equipment to verify the serviceability of avionics, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems and documents all activities in accordance with established procedures.

Responsibilities

• Perform operational checks, bench testing, maintenance, and repair of aircraft electronic and electrical components to ensure they meet serviceability standards.
• Conduct functional testing, operational checks, and leak tests on hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems to verify proper operation.
• Ensure all work complies with customer requirements, applicable technical data, manufacturer Component Maintenance Manuals (CMM), and FAA regulations.
• Use hand tools, test panels, and complex electronic test equipment—including IRIS 2000 systems, continuous wave and pulse generators, multi-trace oscilloscopes, frequency counters, multimeters, deviation meters, and other specialized equipment—to perform operational checks and complete assigned tasks.
• Calibrate, repair, and replace system components based on test results, following blueprints, schematics, handbooks, and other approved technical documentation.
• Ensure all work is performed and documented in accordance with FAA regulations (including Part 43/145 where applicable), the Repair Station Manual (RSM), Quality Control Manual (QCM), and internal procedures.
• Troubleshoot and isolate malfunctions in complex aircraft avionics systems and components, identifying root causes and implementing effective corrective actions.
• Read and interpret manufacturers’ and airline maintenance manuals, service bulletins, wiring diagrams, and related documentation to determine appropriate methods for alteration or repair of aircraft electronic components.
• Perform bench electrical repairs, including overhaul and repair of electrical and avionics components, wiring harnesses, and related assemblies.
• Apply proper ESD handling practices when working with sensitive electronic components to prevent damage.
• Perform precise soldering work on through-hole and surface-mount technology (SMT) components in accordance with quality and safety standards.
• Document all maintenance, testing, and repair activities accurately and clearly to support traceability and regulatory compliance.

Essential Skills

• Minimum of 2 years of electrical or electronic experience, or completion of an Avionics training program.
• Bench repair experience with electronic and electrical components.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for complex aircraft avionics systems and components.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, manufacturers’ manuals, airline maintenance manuals, and service bulletins.
• Proficiency in performing overhaul and repair of electrical and avionics components, including wiring harnesses.
• Thorough knowledge of ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) handling requirements and safe handling of sensitive electronic components.
• Proficiency in soldering through-hole and surface-mount technology (SMT) components.
• Experience working in or with a Part 145 repair station environment.
• Ability to use hand tools, test panels, and complex electronic test equipment such as IRIS 2000 systems, continuous wave and pulse generators, multi-trace oscilloscopes, frequency counters, multimeters, and deviation meters.
• Knowledge of FAA regulations related to maintenance and repair, including Part 43 and Part 145, and familiarity with Repair Station Manual (RSM) and Quality Control Manual (QCM) requirements.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in testing, repair, and documentation.
• Ability to perform bench electrical repairs safely and efficiently.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Graduation from an Avionics training program is highly desirable if less than 2 years of direct electrical or electronic experience.
• Experience with wiring harness fabrication, inspection, and repair.
• Experience in avionics systems, including electrical, electronic, and wire harness assemblies.
• Familiarity with continuous improvement practices in a repair station or maintenance environment.
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a backshop setting.
• Effective communication skills to interpret technical requirements and collaborate with team members.
• Comfort working with regulatory documentation and quality procedures in a controlled environment.

Work Environment

This role is based in a backshop environment with a Monday through Friday schedule from 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., offering consistent daytime hours. You will work in a regulated repair station setting that follows FAA requirements, the Repair Station Manual (RSM), and the Quality Control Manual (QCM). The work involves frequent use of hand tools, test panels, and advanced electronic test equipment, including IRIS 2000 systems, oscilloscopes, frequency counters, multimeters, and other specialized diagnostic instruments. The environment emphasizes safety, precision, and adherence to procedures, with a focus on bench-level testing, calibration, and repair of avionics and electrical components.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Titusville, FL.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $28.00/hr.
