About the Position

Job Title: RN - Med/Surg Profession: Registered Nurse Specialty: Medical Surgical Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Night Hours per Shift: 12 Experience: Minimum 2 years of acute care hospital Med/Surg experience License: Current RN License Certifications: BLS; ACLS preferred Description: Travel opportunity for an RN in the Med/Surg specialty. The unit has 33 rooms with a capacity for up to 49 patients, including some semi-private rooms. There are 62 staff members on the unit. During the day shift, there are 2 charge nurses, 2 techs, and 6-7 RNs. The night shift consists of 1 charge nurse, 1.5 techs, and 5-6 RNs. Patient ratios are 4:1 during the day and 5:1 at night. Telemetry monitoring is utilized on the unit, with an EMR system in place. Candidates must have a minimum of 1 year of current acute care hospital Med/Surg experience. Preferred candidates will have experience working with spinal cord injury cases. Wound care and occasional bowel program assistance are typical procedures on the unit. The best fit for this role is an RN who enjoys working on a busy floor. Patient care experience is a priority for this position. This unit specializes in the care of surgical flap patients and spinal cord injury patients with complex wounds requiring surgical intervention. The staff collaborates with the burn unit to care for low acuity burn patients. While some semi-private rooms may be used when hospital census is high, it is not the preferred method of operation.
