Class A CDL Local Yard Driver

Job Description

Join a dedicated yard operation that offers daily home time, consistent hours, and overtime opportunities. This position is ideal for experienced CDL-A drivers who enjoy a fast-paced environment and want a stable career without spending time on the road.

Drivers on this account are responsible for moving trailers throughout the yard, spotting trailers at docks, and maintaining an organized operation. This is a physically demanding role that requires frequent climbing, walking, trailer hook-ups, and equipment inspections. With approximately 50 hours per week and overtime available after 40 hours, this position offers steady work and dependable earnings.

Job Details

Home daily
Yard jockey position
Move trailers throughout the yard and dock areas
Spot trailers in and out of docks
Maintain safe and organized yard operations
Fast-paced work environment
Operate in all weather conditions
Occasional customer deliveries may be required

Physical Requirements

This is a highly physical position.

Frequent entry and exit from yard equipment
Extensive walking throughout the shift
Manual trailer hook and unhook duties
Raising and lowering landing gear multiple times daily
Climbing in and out of equipment throughout the workday
Ability to safely perform physical labor in varying weather conditions

Equipment

Automatic and manual transmission equipment
Yard hostlers and tractors
Modern, well-maintained equipment
No automatic transmission restriction permitted

Requirements

Valid Class A CDL
Minimum 3 months of Class A tractor-trailer experience
No automatic transmission restriction
Tanker endorsement required within 30 days of hire
Reliable transportation to and from work
Strong safety record
Professional and dependable work ethic

Special Requirements

Class A CDL and tractor-trailer experience required
Drivers may be asked to make customer deliveries as needed
Tanker endorsement costs reimbursed with valid receipts
Ability to work safely in all weather conditions

Holiday Schedule

Drivers should expect to work holidays if the customer is operating
Potential time off for Christmas Day and New Year's Day depending on customer operations
