Maintenance Technician - Anticipated Transfer

Qualifications:

• High school graduate or equivalent.
• A valid Alabama Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
• Good physical and emotional health including the ability to perform duties described in essential functions.
• Effective interpersonal communication skills.
• Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board of Education may find appropriate and acceptable.

Reports to: School Principal, Construction/School Maintenance Supervisor


Job Goal: To provide students with a safe, clean, attractive, and reasonably comfortable facilities and to protect the investment in building, grounds, and equipment


Terms of Employment: Twelve-month contract (240 days).

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Insure the cleanliness of school buildings, grounds, and equipment by:
2. Supervising the work of individuals or services employed to assist in cleaning and assuring that standards are met.
3. Inspecting for cleanliness and reporting conditions to the principal.
4. Performing cleaning operations when necessary.

1. Regulate heating, air conditioning, and other environmental control systems for economical usage of fuel.

1. Open and close the building as directed by the principal.

1. Perform basic maintenance and repair operations.

1. Maintain a daily work log and submit to Maintenance Supervisor monthly.

1. Report to the principal any maintenance problem requiring special assistance.

1. Establish and maintain a file and a log on every item of mechanical equipment located at the school.

1. Perform the required preventive maintenance inspections.

1. Assist in the development and implementation of a campus landscape and use plan.

1. Cut grass, prune, and remove trees and shrubs as required.

1. Perform duties in a manner that promotes good public relations.

1. Maintain a work area for storage of equipment and records.

1. Attend training sessions as scheduled by Maintenance Supervisor.

1. Maintain confidentiality of work-related issues, records, and school related information.

1. Maintain proper and professional relationships with students and other employees.

1. Be familiar with and follow Board of Education policies.

1. Comply with local, state and federal regulations relative to maintenance regulations.

1. Be regular and punctual in attendance.

1. Perform other job-related duties that might be reasonably assigned by the principal or Maintenance Supervisor.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Strength and dexterity necessary to perform all required tasks including lifting items up to 100 pounds, as well as, crawling, stooping, bending, climbing, working from ladders and roof tops in very hot and cold weather conditions.

1. May be required to work on scaffolds, stepladders, and high extension ladders or man-lift on occasion.

1. Use of hands for grasping, crawling, reaching, pushing and pulling

1. Effective communication using speech, vision, hearing.

1. Required to work around moving machinery, exposure to marked changes in temperature and humidity, driving automotive equipment, and exposure to dust, fumes and gases.

1. Required to use manual tools and power equipment common to construction trades.

1. Required knowledge of safety awareness on construction, repair and emergency sites.

8. Responsible for 24 hours emergency maintenance service as warranted.
