Production Manager

Full-time

Gilded Painting

PRODUCTION MANAGER — HOME SERVICES

Gilded Painting | Hagerstown, MD

We’re Looking for a Builder, Not a Babysitter.

Gilded Painting is growing, and we’re looking for an exceptional Production Manager to take ownership of everything that happens after the sale.

Our sales team sells the work. Your job is to build and lead the machine that gets it produced on time, profitably, and with an exceptional customer experience.

This is not a glorified scheduling position.

We are looking for a true manager and operator who knows how to build systems, lead people, manage numbers, solve problems, and hold a team accountable to results.

If you're the type of person who walks into a growing operation, sees inefficiencies, and immediately starts thinking about how to make it run better — we want to talk to you.

What You'll Own

You will take ownership of our production department, including our Project Managers, painters/subcontractors, scheduling, job flow, profitability, production capacity, and customer experience.

Your responsibility is simple:

Turn sold work into happy customers, completed revenue, and healthy profit.

That means you will:

  • Build, document, implement, and continuously improve production systems.
  • Manage the handoff from Sales to Production and ensure jobs don't fall through the cracks.
  • Drive jobs from sold → scheduled → started → completed → collected.
  • Lead and develop our Project Managers.
  • Recruit, maintain, and develop strong relationships with quality painting crews.
  • Create accountability around KPIs, scorecards, expectations, and deadlines.
  • Manage production capacity and make sure we can efficiently produce what our sales team sells.
  • Protect and improve gross profit on every project.
  • Identify jobs that are falling behind financially or operationally and intervene quickly.
  • Reduce callbacks, warranty issues, delays, and unnecessary costs.
  • Ensure customers receive proactive communication and a premium experience.
  • Solve problems without needing the owner to constantly step in.
  • Create a culture where people know their numbers and are expected to perform.

You Need to Know the Numbers

We're not looking for someone who thinks production management is just keeping customers happy and crews busy.

You are responsible for business results.

You should be comfortable managing and being held accountable for numbers such as:

Revenue produced. Gross profit. Labor and material costs. Production cycle time. Capacity. Customer satisfaction. Collections. Callbacks. Warranty work. Project Manager performance. Crew performance.

You should know what is happening in your department before someone has to ask you.

And when a number isn't where it needs to be, your instinct should be:

Why is this happening, and what system, process, or person needs to change to fix it?

Who We're Looking For

Our ideal candidate has meaningful management experience in the home-service industry.

Painting experience is valuable, but we're more interested in finding an exceptional operator than simply finding someone who knows paint.

You may have come from painting, roofing, HVAC, remodeling, landscaping, flooring, windows, restoration, or another high-volume residential home-service company.

More importantly, you've successfully managed people, projects, customers, revenue, and profitability.

You're probably a great fit if:

  • You're extremely organized but can still move quickly.
  • You naturally create systems and processes.
  • You're comfortable holding people accountable.
  • You can have difficult conversations without avoiding them.
  • You understand a P&L and how operational decisions affect profitability.
  • You're excellent with customers — especially when something goes wrong.
  • Tradespeople respect you because you're fair, direct, organized, and do what you say.
  • Strong employees want to work for you.
  • Underperformers know exactly where they stand.
  • You don't accept "that's just how we've always done it."
  • You solve problems instead of simply reporting them.
  • You can operate independently and take genuine ownership of a department.
  • You're competitive and take pride in hitting a number.

What Winning Looks Like

We don't want someone who simply keeps production running.

We want someone who makes production better.

Six to twelve months into this role, we should be able to look back and see:

More revenue produced. Better gross margins. Better systems. Better Project Managers. Better crews. Faster production. Fewer fires. Happier customers. More accountability.

And a production department capable of supporting the next stage of Gilded Painting's growth.

Compensation

We are willing to pay extremely well for the right person.

This role will include a strong base compensation package with the opportunity to earn performance-based bonuses tied to company and production performance.

If you can build a high-performing production department that produces revenue, protects profitability, develops people, and creates happy customers, we want you financially rewarded for the value you create.

We're not looking for the cheapest person.

We're looking for the right person.

About Gilded Painting

Think You Can Run It?

If you're looking for a comfortable job where you maintain someone else's systems and avoid difficult conversations, this probably isn't the position for you.

But if you're a proven home-service leader who loves building systems, developing people, solving problems, driving numbers, and winning, we'd like to meet you.

Apply with your resume and tell us about the largest home-service operation or production team you've managed, the revenue you were responsible for, and one measurable improvement you personally drove.

Benefits:

  • Health insurance
  • Professional development assistance
  • Work Location: In person
