Bilingual Teaching Artist - Play and Performance (Spanish/English)
$24.12 - $24.99 per hourChildren
Description The Bilingual Teaching Artist - Play & Performance is a dynamic performer, storyteller and play champion who brings learning to life through improvisation, imagination and interactive educational experiences. Serving children from Early Childhood Education (ECE) through 4th Grade, this role creates and facilitates immersive play‑based adventures that place children at the center of the action as the heroes of their own stories. Whether leading a Museum experience, visiting a school classroom, or activating a community event, the Bilingual Teaching Artist - Play & Performance uses performance, character work, storytelling and responsive facilitation techniques to spark curiosity, build confidence and encourage creative problem‑solving. Rather than delivering information to children, the Facilitator creates playful worlds, asks compelling questions, and follows children's ideas to co‑create memorable experiences. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in front of an audience, loves improvisation, enjoys thinking on their feet, and believes that play is a powerful tool for learning, connection and discovery. The Bilingual Teaching Artist - Play & Performance reports to the Community Programs Manager. Job Specification Flexible Part‑time: 16‑20 hours per week. Must have availability from 8 am‑1 pm and/or 11am‑4pm at least 4 days per week; 3 weekdays and 1 weekend day. Occasional evening availability is required. Compensation $24.12‑$24.99 per hour Benefits Paid sick leave begins accruing from date of hire. 401(k) Retirement Plan with eligibility to contribute after a 3‑month waiting period (must be 21 years of age). Employee assistance program. Free parking, free family membership to the Museum, discount to the Museum Gift Shop and Café. Core Responsibilities Facilitate highly interactive play‑based learning experiences that blend storytelling, improvisation, movement, role‑play and hands‑on exploration for children and families. Collaborate with Museum teams to implement innovative experiences that integrate play, performance and inquiry‑based learning throughout Museum exhibits. Use performance techniques to transform everyday learning experiences into immersive adventures where children actively shape outcomes and narratives both within the Museum and in the community. Develop original characters, story frameworks and imaginative scenarios that invite children to become problem‑solvers, explorers, inventors, artists, scientists and community heroes. Respond in real time to children's ideas, questions and interests, using improvisational techniques to co‑create meaningful learning experiences. Lead outreach programs, field trips and Museum activations with confidence, energy and adaptability for audiences of varying ages, sizes and learning styles. Continuously provide feedback about performance and facilitation approaches through reflection and collaborative iteration. Support on‑site field trip operations through playful engagement, group facilitation and logistical coordination, helping ensure every visit is organized, welcoming and centered on meaningful learning through play. Communicate with teachers and school partners before, during and after engagement visits to ensure program readiness, alignment of expectations, smooth facilitation and post‑visit reflection that supports continuous improvement and strong partnership experiences. Serve as an ambassador of joyful learning by creating welcoming environments where every child feels empowered to participate, imagine and contribute. Required Qualifications High school diploma, documented professional training in theatre, museum education, community programming, or equivalent experience. Professional fluency in both English and Spanish , including speaking, reading and writing; native fluency preferred. Ability to confidently facilitate programs, performances and conversations with children, families and educators in both English and Spanish. Ability to translate and adapt stories, activities and play experiences in real time to meet the needs of diverse audiences. Experience in theater, improvisation, storytelling, performance, teaching artistry, children's entertainment, museum theater, camp programming or other interactive performance environments. Experience facilitating learning experiences for groups of children and families. Preferred Experience Experience working with culturally diverse communities and creating inclusive learning environments. Experience using storytelling, theater, music, movement or improvisation in both English and Spanish. Ability to seamlessly switch between languages while maintaining energy, clarity and participant engagement. Comfortable performing in front of large and small audiences, including singing, movement, character work, role‑play or other performance techniques. Ability to transform learning objectives into engaging, child‑centered experiences. Skilled at reading audience energy and adapting facilitation approaches to maximize engagement and inclusion. Ability to make children feel seen, valued and empowered as active participants in their own learning journey. Ability to collaborate creatively with colleagues to develop original experiences and programming. A playful spirit, strong sense of curiosity and willingness to embrace experimentation and creative risk‑taking. Additional requirements A valid driver’s license required and ability to drive to and from off‑site activities. Abide by all Museum policies and procedures, including dress code and attendance policy. Fluency with computer software, including Microsoft Outlook and Microsoft Office Suite.
