The Role

We're looking for a product designer who designs, prototypes, and ships — and knows the difference between software that works and software that makes someone smile.

Clinicians use Heidi to get away from keyboards and back to patients. We want the product to feel as considered as the best software you've ever used — cohesive, quiet, and precise across every surface. When a clinician's tools feel right, they spend less time fighting software and more time with patients. That's the job.

This role sits close to the front line. You'll be designing directly against real customer requests, often at speed, and North America will keep you honest about that: a solo clinic in Texas, a hospital network in Ontario, and a group practice in California are all operating under different rules, different documentation norms, and different expectations of what "done" looks like.

Your job is to find the shape that works across all of it without the product fragmenting into a hundred one-offs, or flattening into something that fits nobody well. You'll own the connective tissue of the product — shared patterns, consistent feel, the details that make software feel like one product, even when it's being pulled in a dozen directions by a dozen customers at once. You'll partner directly with engineers, push code when it makes sense, and care about the 3px padding issue as much as the information architecture.

What You'll Do

• Design and ship features in direct response to live customer requests, often turning a raw ask into a considered solution within days, not sprints
• Work across many customers and many countries at once, and know when a local nuance deserves its own path versus when it's a sign the core pattern needs to flex
• Own design quality across the product — catch what's inconsistent and fix it before it ships
• Design, prototype, and ship alongside engineers, without handoffs
• Get close enough to the customer to understand the problem behind the request, not just the request itself
• Explore what AI-powered clinical software should look and feel like, not just maintain what exists
• Contribute to a design system built as a floor, not a ceiling — components, tokens, and patterns that make consistency the default even under rapid, customer-driven change
• Push CSS fixes, build prototypes in Cursor or Claude, and open PRs for polish that shouldn't wait for a sprint
• Share work early, give honest critique, and help the team raise its bar for craft

What We're Looking For

• 5+ years of product design experience, though we care more about what you've shipped/built than years on the clock.
• A romantic streak about software. You believe great products can transform someone's day.
• A portfolio where craft is visible — we want to feel something when we look at your work, not just follow the UX flow
• Comfortable designing in Figma and shipping in code — you've used Cursor, Claude, or similar tools to push real fixes, not just mockups
• A habit of going and finding out for yourself rather than assuming, and the comfort to change your mind fast when the evidence tells you to.
• Comfortable holding a lot of variation in your head at once — you don't lose the thread of the core product while solving five customer-specific problems in a week
• Passion for AI, shown through hands-on building, prototyping, or side projects.
• You default to building over requesting.
• You're confident in your thinking and open to being wrong. Great ideas win regardless of who surfaces them.
• A willingness to travel and visit customers across North America.
