3 - 5 years of experience providing counseling/advising services to a federal TRIO Talent Search program. The Education Advisor will report directly to the Associate Director of UM-Talent Search. The Education Advisor is responsible for advising and assisting with college admissions, financial aid, and other college readiness activities. The position will involve outreach and recruitment in the target community, as well as public relations and marketing to the target audience. Data entry and management will also be required. Responsibilities (50%) The Education Advisor will provide academic and career planning advising on an individual and group basis to Talent Search participants (low-income and first-generation high school students) in Prince George's County Public Schools.
Knowledge of career and cultural options available to students.
Skill in oral and written communication.
Skill in the use of Microsoft Office products.
Ability to interpret and apply policies, procedures, regulations, and laws.
Ability to multitask while demonstrating a commitment to customer service. Job Risks

- Assist in coordinating and organizing college readiness activities.
- Provide academic advising on college preparation and readiness, including admission and financial aid processes.
- Provide student development support based on Student Development Theory.
- Serve as a role model and mentor for students served by Academic Achievement Programs.
- Develop and administer needs assessment and evaluation forms.
- Serve as a student advocate and liaison.
- Participate in outreach activities and student cultural and educational group events on campus and in the community.
- Perform other responsibilities as delegated by the Director and/or Program Director.
