Job Description
This Field Service Technician role focuses on performing startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance services on a full range of electrical power distribution products at customer sites. You will work directly with end users and contractors to ensure systems are installed correctly, fully tested, and functioning properly prior to energization. The position requires a highly self-motivated professional who is comfortable traveling frequently, solving complex technical issues in the field, and providing clear, professional communication to customers.

Work Environment
This role is primarily field-based, with work performed at customer sites that may include active construction environments and operational facilities. You can expect to travel up to approximately 90% of the time via car and airplane when acting as a Service Technician, with overnight stays as needed. Work conditions may require the use of personal protective equipment in certain areas, and you will often work around electrical systems and mechanical equipment. The position may involve long days at customer sites, standing for extended periods, climbing ladders, working from ladders, and lifting and carrying equipment and tools weighing up to 75 lbs occasionally and up to 25 lbs daily. You will regularly use power and hand tools, as well as laptops and software such as Microsoft Office and terminal emulator programs like PuTTY. The travel schedule is generally Monday through Friday, with the expectation of returning home on weekends, and you will follow standard safety procedures and site-specific requirements throughout your assignments.

Job Description
This Field Service Technician role focuses on performing startup, commissioning, troubleshooting, and maintenance services on a full range of electrical power distribution products at customer sites. The position requires a highly self-motivated professional who is comfortable traveling frequently, solving complex technical issues in the field, and providing clear, professional communication to customers.
Responsibilities
- Execute detailed system startup checklists at customer sites to ensure proper installation and operation of all components.
- Program CPM devices and third-party meters on-site and verify correct configuration and communication.
- Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex network issues related to metering and monitoring systems.
- Use terminal emulator programs such as PuTTY to perform device configuration, troubleshooting, and network support.
- Provide programming and networking support to customers over the phone as needed.
- Complete startup certification reports and meter commissioning reports using provided templates and accurately enter all required data.
- Interact professionally and respectfully with customers and contractors while on job sites, representing the company in a positive manner.
- Obtain and utilize a Level 1 Thermography Certification to perform IR scans on energized busway components during routine service visits.
- Prepare and submit thermography reports based on IR scan findings and recommend corrective actions where needed.
- Diagnose and repair on-site issues reported by end users and contractors, ensuring timely resolution and system reliability.
- Train and mentor internal team members and third-party technicians on on-site service procedures, best practices, and troubleshooting methods.
- Identify and propose new service offerings based on observations and feedback from customers and contractors.
- Recommend and specify testing equipment required for new or existing on-site services to improve efficiency and enhance testing depth.
- Use power and hand tools safely and effectively while performing installation, maintenance, and repair tasks.
- Travel frequently to customer locations by car and airplane, including making overnight trips and staying in one location for multiple consecutive nights when needed.
- Follow safety procedures and use personal protective equipment as required on active construction sites and customer facilities.
- Maintain accurate records of work performed, including service reports, test results, and customer communications.
- Superior attention to detail when performing system startups, testing, and documentation.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with customers and contractors.
- Basic experience with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to use terminal emulator programs such as PuTTY for device configuration and network troubleshooting.
- Basic knowledge and experience working with electrical components and systems.
- Experience using power and hand tools for installation, maintenance, and repair tasks.
- Ability and willingness to travel frequently by car and airplane to customer sites, including overnight stays of up to four consecutive nights or longer on rare occasions.
- Valid driver's license and the ability to rent vehicles for travel to customer locations.
- Ability to obtain government-mandated security clearances and a passport for access to secure sites and international travel.
- Willingness to complete mandated training and certification programs, including Level 1 Thermography Certification.
- Demonstrated customer service mindset with the ability to remain professional and respectful on job sites.
- Physical ability to stand for prolonged periods, climb ladders, work while standing on ladders, and lift and carry up to 75 lbs occasionally and up to 25 lbs on a daily basis.
- One year of technical working knowledge with the relevant product lines or similar electrical distribution systems.
- Familiarity with a broad range of electrical service, maintenance, and field technician work.
- Experience in troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and repair of electrical and mechanical systems.
- Experience in data center environments, data center maintenance, or construction settings.
- Comfort working in customer-facing roles that require strong customer service and problem-solving skills.
- Experience in maintenance technician roles or similar technical service positions.
- Basic understanding of thermography and willingness to expand skills through formal certification.
- General proficiency with Microsoft Office tools for creating reports, tracking data, and communicating with stakeholders.
- Interest in identifying new service opportunities and contributing ideas to expand service offerings.
