Job Title: Diagnostic Software Engineer III Location: San Antonio, TX (100% Onsite) Pay Rate: $55/hr on W2 Authorization: US Citizens Only Security Requirement: CJIS Clearance Required

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Diagnostic Software Engineer III to support Linux-based cybersecurity infrastructure in a fast-paced Security Operations Center (SOC) environment. This role is responsible for diagnosing and resolving complex Linux, networking, software, hardware, and infrastructure issues affecting Managed Detection & Response (MDR) appliances deployed across distributed environments.

The ideal candidate will have strong hands-on experience with RHEL/Linux administration, container technologies, networking troubleshooting, log analysis, and production support while collaborating closely with engineering and operations teams to improve system reliability and performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Diagnose and resolve complex issues across Linux systems, applications, networking, server hardware, and MDR appliances.
• Troubleshoot RHEL/Ubuntu production environments and identify root causes using system and application logs.
• Support Linux infrastructure reliability, production operations, and incident resolution initiatives.
• Analyze networking issues using OSI model fundamentals and transport-layer troubleshooting techniques.
• Create and maintain automation scripts using Python or Bash to streamline operational tasks.
• Monitor and troubleshoot containerized applications using Podman or similar container technologies.
• Investigate interface failures, synchronization issues, and transaction errors across infrastructure components.
• Document troubleshooting procedures, runbooks, and technical knowledge articles.
• Collaborate with Engineering, DevOps, Security Operations, and Infrastructure teams to resolve recurring production issues.
• Escalate and communicate recurring defects to development teams and support continuous system improvements.
• Participate in incident, problem, change, and release management activities.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years of Linux Administration experience (RHEL preferred; Ubuntu acceptable).
• 1+ year of server hardware troubleshooting experience.
• Strong understanding of networking fundamentals, including the OSI model and transport troubleshooting.
• Experience analyzing system and application logs to identify root causes.
• Hands-on experience with Python or Bash scripting.
• Experience supporting Linux production environments and infrastructure operations.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work independently in a fast-paced operational environment.
• US Citizenship required.
• CJIS clearance or eligibility required.
