Medical Laboratory Scientist II - 64030539This is a full-time, in-office position. Working with enteric samples (raw patient samples) as well as being the QC/QA record keeper. Your specific responsibilities include:This Medical Laboratory Scientist II position is a highly technical microbiologist position involved in the identification of pathogenic parasites from clinical specimens. This includes the classical microscopic identification and the latest validated techniques employing Real-Time PCR for parasites. This position will also assist with the daily quality control of reagents and media used in the laboratory as well as serving as a back up to the water testing laboratory. Incumbent will employ traditional/classical techniques for identification of parasites from fecal and bloodborne origins. The incumbent will also train on the latest validated methods for RT-PCR identification of parasites. Incumbent will perform quality control checks for all media and reagents utilized for parasite testing, but also assist with performing checks for media utilized in the clinical and environmental laboratory. Incumbent will serve as a back up technician for water testing in the environmental laboratory. Incumbent will be expected to rotate microbiological duties depending on the workload and staffing requirement including holiday and weekend rotation. Participation in proficiency testing is required as well as continuing education relating to licensure requirements. Perform other duties as required.Required knowledge, skills, and abilities include:Knowledge of terminology, principles and techniques used in analysis and testing. Knowledge of procedures, techniques & equipment used in lab testing and analysis. Skill in the use of lab equipment. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to work independently. Ability to plan, organize and coordinate work assignments. Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.Qualifications:Minimum – State of Florida Public Health or Clinical Laboratory License Chapter 483 F.S. and Rule 64B3 F.A.C.
