Emergency Department Unit SecretaryThe Emergency Department Unit Secretary provides administrative and communication support to ensure safe, efficient patient care in a fast-paced Level III Trauma Center. This role serves as a central communication hub for the department, supporting physicians, nurses, ancillary departments, EMS, patients, and visitors while maintaining accurate documentation and facilitating patient flow.Key Responsibilities:Manage and prioritize incoming phone calls, emergency notifications, and department communications.Facilitate communication between the care team, ancillary departments, inpatient units, EMS, and external agencies.Monitor department tracking systems and assist with patient flow activities.Prepare and maintain patient records, forms, and department documentation.Coordinate trauma activations, STEMI alerts, stroke alerts, and other emergency notifications according to established protocols.Assist patients, families, and visitors with information and wayfinding while maintaining confidentiality.Support compliance with regulatory, hospital, and departmental policies and procedures.Qualifications:High School Diploma/GED required.Completion of Medical Assistant, Medical Secretary classes, or equivalent experience preferred.Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the AHA preferred.1-3 years of relevant experience in a health care setting preferred.Basic knowledge of medical terminology preferred.Must be able to complete required (if applicable) training program.Requires basic proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).Key Competencies:Communication and teamworkAttention to detailCritical thinking and prioritizationCustomer serviceAdaptability and resilienceConfidentiality and professionalismPhysical Requirements:Ability to sit perform computer-based work for extended periods.Ability to manage multiple interruptions and function effectively in a high-stress emergency care environment.
