Temporary Faculty Pool - Lecturer in Child and Family Science Job No: 555874 • Work Type: Instructional Faculty – Temporary/Lecturer • Location: Central California, Fresno • Appointment Type: Temporary • Time Basis: Part Time Department Overview The Department of Child and Family Science serves over 450 majors and 100 minors, most of whom are female, members of under‑represented ethnic minority groups, and first‑generation college students. Students choose either Child Development or Family Science. We have 7 full‑time faculty and typically about 10 part‑time faculty. Position Summary Temporary faculty will teach child development, family science, and related courses. Typical classes are face‑to‑face daytime courses. Course availability varies each semester and is difficult to predict. The following courses most often need an instructor: CFS 31 – Family Science CFS 38 – Lifespan Development CFS 39 – Child Development CFS 134 – Culture & Diversity CFS 135 – Parent Education CFS 137 – Care of Infants & Toddlers Other courses as needed to fulfill educational goals of current students Instructor Responsibilities Temporary faculty must comply with university and system‑wide policies per Academic Policy Manual 306. They are responsible for the preparation, delivery, proctoring, and grading of lectures, office hours, homework, quizzes, class projects, and midterm and final exams. All classes must be offered and meet as scheduled throughout the semester, in the mode listed in the schedule of classes (asynchronous, synchronous, in‑person, or hybrid). Conditional Appointment Appointment is contingent upon budget and enrollment considerations and subject to order of assignment provisions in the collective bargaining agreement. Applicants must demonstrate eligibility to work in the United States. The position is part‑time and may require availability to begin teaching on short notice. Compensation Salary is commensurate with qualifications and experience within the CSU salary schedule (Class Code = 2358 for Academic Year Lecturers). For a Master’s degree holder, the range is $5,507–$6,677 per month for full‑time teaching (15 WTUs). Actual pay will be adjusted based on the number of WTUs assigned per term. Anticipated Semester The temporary faculty pool is continuously open with positions filled as needed. Appointments are made just prior to the start of the academic term, and candidates must be available to begin teaching on short notice. The pool remains in place for two academic terms; those wishing to remain beyond that time must reapply. Fall 2026: Aug 19 2026 – Dec 22 2026 Spring 2027: Jan 15 2027 – May 26 2027 Required Qualifications Education: Master’s degree in Child and Family Science or a closely related field (Early Childhood Education, Marriage & Family Therapy, Developmental Psychology, Family Sociology, Women’s Studies, etc.) with evidence of specialization relevant to CFS coursework. Experience: Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Preferred Qualifications Commitment to teaching excellence at the undergraduate level, evidenced by prior teaching experience and evaluations.
