Assistant/Associate Project Scientist – Behavioral and Systems Neuroscience, Wilbrecht Lab Position title: Assistant/Associate Project Scientist in the Wilbrecht laboratory, Neuroscience Department, University of California, Berkeley. Position Overview Salary range: $88,000–$101,200 per year (full-time, 100%). Anticipated start: Fall 2026. Position duration: one year with the possibility of extension based on performance and funding. Position Description The Wilbrecht Lab investigates how early life adversity and psychiatric risk genes influence learning and decision making, measuring neural activity to uncover how neural circuits support distinct learning phenotypes. The role will involve collaborative work with biologists, psychologists, statisticians, and computational scientists across UC Berkeley and partner universities. Key contributions: Designing and conducting behavioral neurobiology experiments (husbandry, training, recording, histology) Planning, executing, and analyzing data and computational models Writing and revising manuscripts and grant proposals Mentoring graduate students and postdoctoral researchers; managing materials, supplies, and data Responsibilities Designing and executing experiments Managing data, protocols, safety, reagents, equipment, and materials Analyzing data and preparing manuscripts Presenting research and attending lab meetings Contributing to grant proposals Mentoring graduate students and postdoctoral researchers Qualifications PhD (or equivalent international degree) at time of application At least two years of post‑PhD research experience at the time of start PhD in neuroscience, psychology, or a related field (preferred) Extensive experience with behavioral methods for learning and decision making (preferred) Experience generating and analyzing neural recordings with at least two modern methods (preferred) Strong knowledge of statistical methods and computational modeling techniques (preferred) Research interest in early life adversity and adaptive developmental plasticity (preferred) Experience mentoring graduate and undergraduate students in laboratory settings (preferred) Excellent publication record in peer‑reviewed journals (preferred) Strong writing and communication skills (preferred) Equal Opportunity Employment The University of California, Berkeley is an Equal Opportunity employer.
