POSITION SUMMARY:

The Aquatics Coordinator, reporting to the Aquatics Director, helps lead the day-to-day operations of our aquatics facilities and programs. This includes direct service as a lifeguard and swim instructor, staff coaching and onboarding, and administrative responsibilities. In partnership with the Aquatics Director, this role ensures a safe, welcoming, and high-quality experience for all. The Coordinator also assumes leadership responsibilities in the Director’s absence.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Deliver exceptional member service by creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment.
• Provide direct service as a lifeguard or swim instructor (approx. 35 hrs/week).
• Support hiring, onboarding, and ongoing training of aquatics staff.
• Coach and provide feedback to lifeguards and instructors to ensure excellence.
• Assist instructors with class readiness, skill assessments, and communication of progress with families.
• Support scheduling, lesson input, lap lane reservations, and incident reporting.
• Help lead staff in-service trainings and certifications.
• Ensure accurate and timely completion of pool maintenance logs, chemical testing, and safety procedures.
• Monitor and assist with pool chemical upkeep (chlorine, CO2, media changes).
• Contribute to policy and procedure updates in collaboration with the Aquatics Director.
• Model YMCA values (Caring, Honesty, Respect, Responsibility) in all interactions.

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Minimum age: 18
• CPR for the Professional Rescuer, AED, and First Aid (required within 90 days of hire)
• YMCA or Red Cross Lifeguard certification (required within 90 days of hire)
• YMCA Swim Lesson Instructor certification preferred (required within 90 days of hire)
• Strong swimming ability and readiness to perform rescues per YMCA/Red Cross standards
• Ability to work effectively with individuals of diverse ages, abilities, and backgrounds

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

•  Pass lifeguard water skills test
• Remain alert and attentive for extended periods
• Ability to hear, see, and respond to distress signals promptly
• Perform rescues and lift/carry individuals from the water as needed
• Project voice clearly in loud and busy environments
