Production Supervisor – Manufacturing Operations AKER by MAAX | American Bath Group Work Setting: Onsite, hands-on manufacturing Schedule: Approximately 4:30 a.m.–3:30/4:00 p.m., Monday–Friday, with occasional Saturday coverage Area of Responsibility: Front shop/chop line Team: 14 employees reported—11 direct and 3 indirect reports Make a Difference and Lead the Day AKER by MAAX, part of American Bath Group, is hiring a hands‑on Production Supervisor to lead a quality-sensitive composite manufacturing section at its Martinsburg, West Virginia facility. This is a frontline manufacturing leadership position with direct responsibility for people, safety, production, quality, downtime, material control, labor deployment, and daily output. The Production Supervisor will remain closely connected to the floor, leading the chop line from preparation and startup through shutdown. The year‑one mandate is clear: establish consistent full‑day leadership, strengthen operator performance, and improve measurable operating results. Key objectives include reducing line‑caused downtime from 9% to 3% or less, reducing chop‑line defects from 28% to 10%, lowering floor waste from 2.0% to 1.75%, and increasing reported output from 220 to 255. What You Will Be Responsible For: Own Daily Production Execution Prepare the production area for an approximately 5:00 a.m. startup and remain accountable through shutdown. Set the daily operating plan and deploy or adjust labor within the chop line. Monitor production pacing and respond quickly when output falls behind plan. Maintain accurate hourly production, labor, defect, material, and downtime reporting. Review and approve employee timecards. Lead startup, shift execution, shutdown, and daily reporting without routine supervisory gaps. Lead and Develop the Team Maintain a visible and consistent presence on the production floor. Establish clear expectations for safety, quality, productivity, attendance, and process adherence. Coach employees patiently, verify understanding, and document follow‑up. Hold employees appropriately accountable when performance or conduct does not improve. Build credibility by listening, explaining the reason behind standards, and following through consistently. Coordinate employee communication, coaching, documentation, and escalation with Human Resources. Improve Quality, Downtime, Waste, and Output Use hourly KPI data to identify and respond to downtime, defects, labor gaps, material losses, and production shortfalls. Monitor gunners and rollers and develop sufficient knowledge of stroke counts, spray patterns, gauging, rolling, and material application to coach effectively. Learn gun and roller mechanics well enough to diagnose process problems and make credible operating decisions. Reduce air pockets, rework, repair, scrap, and downstream disruption through stronger process control and operator capability. Improve material application discipline and reduce preventable over‑application and floor waste. Verify that corrective actions remain effective after implementation. Protect Safety and Product Quality Enforce PPE, respirator, chemical‑handling, housekeeping, and floor‑safety requirements. Personally intervene when unsafe conditions are observed. Exercise stop‑work authority when necessary and support safe, controlled restarts. Make sound decisions regarding line stoppages and quality holds. Coordinate maintenance, quality, EHS, and plant‑leadership support while retaining ownership of communication and follow‑through. Refuse to trade employee safety or product quality for short‑term production output. What Success Looks Like During the first 30 days, the Production Supervisor is expected to complete process and gun‑mechanics training and demonstrate working knowledge of core gun and roller mechanics. By approximately Day 60, the supervisor should be able to: Independently own startup, production execution, shutdown, and reporting. Manage hourly KPI and labor tracking without assistance. Demonstrate measurable improvement in leading defect drivers. Establish a consistent employee coaching and accountability cadence. By the end of the first year, the area should operate through a repeatable management system that connects startup, labor placement, hourly KPI response, quality containment, safety decisions, employee coaching, reporting, and shutdown. Required Qualifications Candidates must demonstrate the following capabilities: Direct ownership of an hourly manufacturing team, including daily execution, employee coaching, labor decisions, and performance accountability. Experience managing production‑plan execution, production pacing, labor response, and recovery when output is behind plan. Personal safety leadership in a chemical or industrial environment, including hazard intervention, PPE enforcement, stop‑work decisions, and safe restart or escalation. Hands‑on responsibility for quality, downtime, scrap or waste, and material control. Demonstrated ability to diagnose operating causes, implement corrective action, and sustain improvement. Ability and willingness to work the verified early schedule and occasional Saturdays. Ability to function effectively in a hands‑on chemical and industrial manufacturing environment. A specific previous title, exact number of years of experience, advanced computer expertise, bathware experience, or a perfect employment‑tenure pattern is not required. Demonstrated operating ownership and leadership capability will take precedence. Strongly Preferred Production leadership experience in a hands‑on, process‑and quality‑sensitive manufacturing environment. Practical continuous‑improvement experience grounded in floor execution. Experience improving manufacturing ergonomics or work methods. A record of dependable follow‑through in demanding manufacturing operations. Strong daily KPI, labor‑tracking, production‑reporting, and corrective‑action discipline. Helpful, but Not Required Fiberglass, composites, resin, spray, or other applied‑material manufacturing experience. Bathware or adjacent manufacturing experience. Familiarity with SAP, ADP, or general manufacturing reporting systems. Leadership Profile The strongest candidate will be a steady, approachable, and accountable manufacturing leader who can: Maintain visible floor leadership with calm urgency. Earn employee trust without relying solely on title or authority. Train patiently while maintaining firm performance standards. Learn specialized equipment, materials, and processes quickly. Make safety‑first decisions under production pressure. Turn hourly operating data into immediate floor action. Carry issues from initial observation through correction, documentation, escalation, and sustained control. Remain resilient and effective throughout long operating days. This position works onsite in an active composite manufacturing operation. The environment includes: Resin, catalyst, and other production chemicals. Moving molds and active manufacturing equipment. Required PPE and respirator use. Housekeeping and floor‑hazard exposure. Regular production, quality, maintenance, and safety decisions. Extended time working directly on the production floor. Candidates must be comfortable leading in a hands‑on industrial environment rather than functioning primarily from an office.
