Cath Lab Tech

- Unit Details:
- Procedures room with 3 cath labs and 1 hybrid OR


- Schedule:
- On-call required: typically 6 evenings and 1 weekend per 6 weeks
- Weekend shifts: typically 1 weekend per 6 weeks on stand-by
- 30-minute response time for all on-call coverage


- Systems Used:
- Medication system: Pyxis
- Documentation: EPIC, McKesson
- Communication: SBAR


- Required Work Settings:
- Diagnostic Cardiac Cath Lab
- Interventional Cardiac Cath Lab

- Required Procedures/Skills:
- Cardiac stent placement
- Diagnostic catheterizations (adult)
- IABP placement/removal
- Impella insertion
- Left heart catheterization
- Percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI)
- Percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty (PTCA)
- Right heart catheterization
- Rotablader athrectomy
- Temporary pacemaker
- Ventricular assist device insertion


- Preferred Procedures/Skills:
- Optical coherence tomography (OCT)
- Pulmonary artery (PA) line insertion
- Transcatheter aortic valve implantation/replacement (TAVI/TAVR)
- Watchman procedure


- Required Equipment/Devices:
- Fluoroscopy
- Siemens


- Required Procedural Responsibilities:
- Accurate monitoring
- Equipment setup
- EKG lead placement
- Prep access site
- Recognition of life-threatening arrhythmias
- Room circulator
- Scrub and maintain sterile field
- Vascular closure systems (Perclose, StarClose)


- Professional Knowledge and Skills:
- Required: Isolation precautions
- Preferred: Use of Rapid Response Team

- Scrubs provided
- 30-minute on-call response time required for all units
