Shift Manager

Position SummaryThe Shift Manager is responsible for providing leadership to crew and other managers during a shift to ensure exceptional Quality, Service, Cleanliness (QSC) to our guests. Shift Managers plan for each shift, monitor performance during the shift, take action to ensure the team is meeting McDonald’s standards, monitor safety, security and profitability, and communicate with the next Shift Manager to help prepare them to run a great shift, too. Shift Managers are also responsible for meeting targets during their shifts and for helping their assigned Departments meet their goals.What You’ll DoLead the TeamKeep your team motivated and on trackMake sure everyone’s in uniform and ready to workSet the tone for great guest serviceAssign breaks and manage labor efficientlyHelp train new crew members and support ongoing developmentRun the ShiftKeep things moving in the kitchen and front counterMeet or exceed all service goals (OEPE, KVS, VOICE, PACE, Labor, FoB, etc.)Complete DSPT’s at least 24 hours in advance and utilize during peak periods to optimize performanceComplete pre-shift checklistsIdentify danger zones and react appropriatelyKeep it Clean & SafeConduct QSC travel path every 30 minutes, inspecting lobby, restrooms, parking lot, prioritizing and correcting issues immediatelyComplete and verify daily food safety checklist and monitor food safety procedures during shiftEnsure guest and high-touch surfaces are clean, sanitary and stockedVerify completion/follow-up on all cleaning and PM maintenance tasksReport any crew or customer illness, injuries, or property damage immediatelyCommunication & Issue ResolutionHandle guest concerns promptly, professionally and appropriatelyCommunicate shift goals vs. actual performance throughout the shiftCommunicate any new and upcoming changes regarding product, people, policyPass on key information to incoming manager such as equipment or staffing issuesProvide on the spot coaching for crew members when neededInventory ManagementMaintain stock levels for upcoming peaksCash Handling & ReportingEnsure cash controls are in place, including safe contents, skims, deposits, cash +/-Complete shift cash handling and end-of-day reporting accuratelyOtherAssist with internal/external audits and vendor visitsAll other duties as assignedWhat You’ll NeedGeneralMust be at least 18 years of ageBilingual (Spanish) highly desirableEducationHigh school diploma or equivalent preferred, but not requiredCollege degree preferred, but not requiredExperienceAt least 1-year prior crew trainer or supervisory experienceAt least 1 year’s work experience in fast food, hospitality or retail environmentFamiliar with managing KPIs such as labor management, food waste, guest satisfactionCertificationsServSafe certification required to be obtained and active throughout tenureAllergen certification required to be obtained and active throughout tenureSkills You BringLeadership skillsMotivate and guide the team to perform at their bestMake confident decisions and own the outcomesHold yourself and others accountableLead by example and explain the “why” behind decisionsGive and receive feedback in a constructive wayStay focused on goals and help others stay alignedSoft skillsPositive attitude that lifts and motivates the teamClear communicator who acts with emotional intelligenceEffective in conflict resolution and building team moraleNavigate changes and help others adaptEffective time management and delegation skillsStay calm under pressure and act with urgency when neededTechnical skillsUnderstand and apply food safety and compliance standardsTrack and respond to operational KPIs (e.g., labor cost, food waste, guest satisfaction)Use POS systems and reporting tools confidentlyAnalyze data and make smart, informed decisionsFollow procedures for inventory, cash handling, and shift reportingAdditional InformationWork Environment & ScheduleRequires 95% standing and walking in a restaurant; 5% administrativeRequires lifting up to 30 poundsNight, weekend and holiday availability requiredComfortable working in a fast-paced, high-volume environmentReporting StructureReports to the Restaurant General ManagerDirect reports include all crew and managers working during the designated shiftCompensation & BenefitsCompetitive hourly wage, pay for this position ranges from $15-$25/hour based on prior experience.
