Director of Finance And Accounting

Our client, a well-established and growing consulting engineering firm based in the Morristown, NJ area, specializing in geotechnical and site civil engineering services for owners, developers, and the construction industry, is seeking a Director of Finance to lead financial strategy and accounting operations. This is a senior, high-visibility role reporting directly to the Partners, with the autonomy to shape financial strategy, drive change management, and translate ownership's vision into day-to-day management of the accounting team. This is an excellent opportunity for a strategic finance leader who wants true ownership over budgeting, treasury, and financial operations at the executive level. Director of Finance Responsibilities Lead and oversee all accounting operations including billing, collections, accounts payable, and payroll Develop and implement monthly, quarterly, and annual financial budgets and forecasts; track and report results against budget Model future financial scenarios and advise Partners on business decisions, investment opportunities, partnerships, and acquisitions Manage cash flow, liquidity, and banking/financing relationships; oversee optimal capital structure Implement and facilitate internal and external audit processes; ensure GAAP compliance Establish and oversee month-end and year-end closing processes and tax/regulatory filings Collaborate with Risk and IT to oversee insurance, fraud prevention, and cybersecurity Establish KPIs and benchmarks; design and generate financial reports and analyses for regular review Recruit, hire, mentor, and manage accounting staff including Accounting Managers, AP/AR, Billing/Collections, and Payroll Evaluate and recommend new accounting/finance technology to improve departmental efficiency Interface extensively with clients, consultants, vendors, and internal departments on financial matters Director of Finance Requirements Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or related field 10+ years of related experience in accounting/finance leadership Master's degree or professional certification (CPA, CMA, CFA) preferred Advanced understanding of bookkeeping, accounting principles, and financial analysis Strong strategic thinking, problem-solving, and initiative; able to operate independently with minimal supervision Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PDF software; experience with accounting and project management software Valid Driver's License with reliable transportation Competitive salary plus 2 discretionary bonuses per year Health, vision, and dental insurance with telemedicine options Company-paid life insurance 401(k) with company match Tuition reimbursement and certification/recertification fee reimbursement #J-18808-Ljbffr The Axel Group, LLC
