Earthjustice is the nation's leading environmental law organization. Earthjustice wields the power of law and the strength of partnership to protect people's health, preserve magnificent places and wildlife, advance clean energy, and combat climate change. We are here because the Earth needs a good lawyer.
Driven by a passion for justice, inclusion, partnership, and excellence, Earthjustice's core values lead us to seek a broad range of perspectives and backgrounds to achieve our mission and maintain an inclusive environment where all staff are valued and respected.
Earthjustice Action is a separate 501(c)(4) social welfare organization focused on defending and strengthening bedrock environmental laws and ensuring they remain intact and enforceable. Founded in 2017, Earthjustice Action unleashes the power of the people and ensures that elected officials listen to those who matter most: their constituents.
The Senior Compliance Analyst will serve as a dedicated compliance resource within the General Counsel's Office, responsible for building and managing a centralized system for tracking, coordinating, and supporting key regulatory compliance obligations for Earthjustice (501(c)(3)), Earthjustice Action (501(c)(4)), and Earthjustice Action's associated political committees. The role will help reduce legal, financial, and reputational risk by creating and managing systems for high-risk filing, registration, reporting, recordkeeping, and deadline-management obligations that are currently distributed across multiple departments.
This is a non-supervisory position. The Senior Compliance Analyst is expected to work a full-time (37.5 hours/week) schedule and will work hybrid from either the Washington, D.C. or San Francisco, CA office. What You'll Do Compliance infrastructure and controls (30%)

- Coordinate with Legal, Policy and Legislation, Finance, Human Resources, and other departments to gather necessary information and to monitor lobbying limits, political-activity restrictions, ballot-measure activity and shared-resource issues across affiliated entities and maintain audit-ready documentation and written procedures.

- As part of holistic compliance system, monitor and coordinate recurring and event-triggered compliance obligations; maintain compliance calendars, tracking systems, and records; and work with internal stakeholders to support timely and accurate filings, registrations, and disclosures.
- Advise internal teams on compliance requirements associated with lobbying, advocacy, and affiliated-entity activities; monitor regulatory developments; monitor logged time to ensure accurate reporting; and identify, escalate, and help mitigate emerging compliance risks.
- Administer and coordinate compliance with federal, state, and local employer registration, reporting, and recordkeeping requirements, including payroll tax, unemployment insurance, paid leave, workers' compensation, and new-hire reporting obligations.
- Coordinate with Human Resources, Finance, and other departments to monitor compliance requirements associated with organizational growth, remote work arrangements, expansion into new jurisdictions, and changes in workforce structure.
- Develop and maintain compliance tracking systems, monitor filing and registration deadlines, identify emerging compliance obligations and regulatory risks, and elevate significant compliance issues to the General Counsel's Office for review and resolution.
- On behalf of Earthjustice Action and associated political committees, support federal, state, and local campaign finance compliance, political committee obligations, reporting, disclosures, registrations, and other filing requirements across entities, and related recordkeeping.
