Wildlife & Forestry Operations Technician

$23 - $30.2 per hour

City of Lincoln

Who you are You love being outdoors, enjoying wildlife, and the forest in general. Your personal hobbies might include backpacking, fishing, hunting, or other outdoor activities. You as a person and a professional are eager, have a positive attitude, strong work ethic, aptitude to learn new skills, and like working as a team. What the job is This is a unique full‑time position working in two different disciplines: Wildlife Biology and Forestry Operations. From February to August, you will work with the wildlife team, conducting field surveys for raptors such as bald eagles, osprey, peregrine falcons, and spotted owls. This work is required by the California Forest Practice Rules for timber harvest planning and operations. We do demographic studies that are required by Green Diamond’s Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) and nighttime surveys for spotted owls. From September to January, you will switch gears and work with the Forest Operations team, conducting road assessment and maintenance monitoring in conjunction with the Aquatic Habitat Conservation Plan (AHCP) and programmatic road permits. You will assist with data collection, data entry, and project preparation in each discipline. Qualifications You should have a bachelor’s degree in wildlife, forest management, natural resources or closely related fields of study in either or both disciplines or the equivalent work experience. The position works primarily in the field using four‑wheel drive vehicles and hiking. You should be effective at using GPS, maps, and situational awareness to navigate challenging terrain and weather conditions. Safety is always the number one priority. Work schedule A typical day involves 8 to 10 hours of field work depending on location. The crew meets to discuss plans regularly in each group. Although co‑workers are nearby, some tasks require working alone and taking responsibility for your own safety. Location You will work on nearly 400,000 acres of Green Diamond’s privately held forest property, located in Humboldt and Del Norte Counties along the Northern California coast. Our offices are nestled in the redwood forest near the Pacific Ocean. Compensation Hourly wage range: $23.00 to $30.20. The pay range listed is just one part of Green Diamond’s total compensation package. Other rewards include eligibility to receive an annual company‑wide financial bonus and the opportunity to receive a bonus based on your personal performance. Benefits Green Diamond offers a generous benefit package to include medical/vision and dental, life and disability insurance, 401(k) plan with match and profit sharing. Paid time off includes 9 designated and up to 2 personal holidays, 10 vacation days, 10 sick days, 30 days parental leave, 3 days bereavement, an extra 2 days bereavement unpaid, jury duty, 1 volunteer day, and 5 days family care. Also provided is a company vehicle for business use. About Green Diamond We grow and nurture forests, a renewable resource to build homes, schools, and household necessities, harnessing carbon every single day we operate. We’re a family‑owned company guided by our values of environmental stewardship and supporting our local communities. We do what’s right, even when it is the harder path to follow. We focus on the health and safety of our people first – by taking care of all our resources, we plan to be here for another 130 years. #J-18808-Ljbffr City of Lincoln
