Regulatory FDA Attorney Location: Columbia, MD Salary: $150,000 - $160,000 per year Position Summary Shimadzu Scientific Instruments is seeking a Regulatory FDA Attorney to lead and strengthen our compliance strategy across the organization. In this role, you will monitor evolving federal, state, and local environmental regulations, assess how they apply to our business, and advise leaders on practical steps to maintain compliance and reduce risk. You will also monitor FDA regulations for our FDA‑regulated products and guide the organization through complex regulatory requirements covering multiple federal and state agencies. Job Functions Monitor federal, state, and local regulatory requirements and evaluate how they apply across Shimadzu operations, including headquarters, regional offices, and laboratory environments Track and interpret updates from agencies such as OSHA, EPA, FDA, DOJ, DOT, NRC, and state environmental agencies Assess regulatory risk and recommend practical, business‑aligned solutions to support ongoing compliance Partner with leaders across departments to implement compliance actions and improve internal processes Review internal activities and reporting to identify potential compliance concerns before they become larger issues Help identify regulatory knowledge gaps across the organization and support the development of effective training solutions Measure the effectiveness of training through follow‑up assessments, surveys, and other feedback tools Provide regular feedback and insight to senior leadership, including the General Counsel, on compliance trends, risks, and opportunities for improvement Stay current on changing regulatory expectations and industry developments through active participation in relevant external forums and associations Travel as needed to support business operations and compliance initiatives Lead and support a three‑person regulatory team Education and Qualifications A Juris Doctor from an ABA‑approved law school At least 4 years of legal experience At least 2 years of experience in regulatory compliance Strong knowledge of regulations related to FDA, EPA, OSHA, NRC, DOJ, and applicable state and local requirements Experience researching, interpreting, and summarizing laws, regulations, statutes, and compliance guidance Strong analytical skills and the ability to assess risk, identify solutions, and communicate recommendations clearly Excellent organizational, communication, and presentation skills The ability to work effectively with stakeholders across functions, disciplines, and levels of the organization Benefits A work environment that values diversity, inclusion & belonging Competitive compensation and day‑one benefits Retirement benefits: matching 401(k) and profit‑sharing program Professional growth: clear pathways for career, leadership, and personal development Health benefits: flexible spending/health savings accounts Work‑life balance: generous and front‑loaded paid time off plan Education: tuition assistance program for graduate and undergraduate levels Insurance perks: pet insurance, optional identity‑theft, legal pre‑paid and critical care buy‑up insurance, company‑paid life insurance, and short‑term disability programs Work flexibility: business casual dress attire and casual (jeans) Friday Employee engagement: employee resource groups to network, build community, and enhance career and personal development Compensation & Benefits Details This full‑time, exempt position comes with a comprehensive benefits package. In the first year, you will receive 10 paid vacation days, 8 paid personal days, 8 paid scheduled holidays, and 3 paid floating holidays (Residents of California and Puerto Rico will receive state‑mandated sick leave instead of personal days). After one year of employment, you will also be eligible for a generous short‑term disability program with the company covering 100% of monthly premiums. The starting salary range for this role is $150,000 to $160,000 annually, paid semi‑monthly. Additional variable compensation may include a discretionary year‑end bonus based on overall company performance.
