Job Description

The Maintenance Technician diagnoses, repairs, and optimizes high-speed packaging equipment in a food and beverage manufacturing environment. This role focuses on mechanical and electrical troubleshooting of complex packaging lines, supporting preventive and predictive maintenance programs, and ensuring equipment operates safely, efficiently, and in compliance with industry standards.

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair high-speed packaging equipment, including bottle and can fillers, can seamers and roll-through seamers, labelers, date coders, and inspection systems.
• Maintain and repair depalletizers, rinsers, packers, palletizers, conveyors, motors, photo eyes, stop gates, sensors, and diverters.
• Perform detailed mechanical and electrical troubleshooting on packaging line components such as bearings, belts, gearboxes, couplings, chain drives, variable frequency drives (VFDs), and servo systems.
• Troubleshoot pneumatic and hydraulic systems, including cylinders, valves, manifolds, and lubrication systems.
• Identify and resolve process and product nonconformances through root cause analysis, including loose or double seams, fill volume issues, container pressure problems, label and date code application defects, and line jams or accumulation.
• Read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and piping diagrams to perform equipment checks, changeovers, and overhauls.
• Support and execute preventive and predictive maintenance programs for packaging assets to reduce downtime and extend equipment life.
• Work safely around conveyors, rotating machinery, high-voltage systems (including 480V), confined spaces, and elevated work platforms.
• Safely operate forklifts and aerial lift equipment in accordance with site safety procedures.
• Respond to equipment alarms and faults, including PLC I/O and HMI alarms, to restore production quickly and effectively.
• Collaborate with production and quality teams to ensure packaging lines meet performance, quality, and safety standards.
• Document maintenance activities, repairs, and adjustments to support continuous improvement and compliance requirements.

Essential Skills

• Proven experience in high-speed manufacturing environments such as food and beverage, brewery, soda, dairy, or similar facilities.
• Hands-on packaging line maintenance experience, specifically on production equipment rather than building maintenance, HVAC, or facilities-only work.
• Strong skills in diagnosing and repairing packaging equipment including fillers, seamers, labelers, packers, and palletizers.
• Proficiency in troubleshooting sensors, photo-eyes, and limit switches on high-speed lines.
• Experience working with and troubleshooting variable frequency drives (VFDs), PLC I/O, and HMI alarms.
• Solid understanding of mechanical power transmission components, including bearings, belts, gearboxes, couplings, chain drives, and related systems.
• Working knowledge of pneumatic and hydraulic systems, including cylinders, valves, and manifolds.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and piping diagrams.
• Awareness of NFPA 70E electrical safety principles and safe work practices around high-voltage equipment.
• Demonstrated capability in electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic troubleshooting and repair.
• Experience supporting preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance activities on production equipment.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience maintaining high-speed packaging lines in food and beverage or similar regulated industries.
• Familiarity with servo systems and advanced motion control on packaging equipment.
• Exposure to inspection systems, date coders, and labelers in a production environment.
• Comfort working with root cause analysis methods to address process and product nonconformances.
• Experience working with lubrication systems on rotating and moving equipment.
• Ability to operate forklifts and aerial lift equipment safely, with relevant certifications where required.
• Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced production setting.
• Effective communication skills to collaborate with production, quality, and other maintenance team members.

This is a Permanent position based out of Allentown, PA.

The pay range for this position is $70000.00 - $75000.00/yr.
