Emergency Medicine Staff Nurse (University Campus) - 50% - 100% Qualified candidates may be eligible for a sign‑on bonus up to $10,000 The University of Iowa Health Care is Iowa’s only comprehensive academic medical center and a regional referral center. Emergency Department | University Campus: The Emergency Department (ED) at the University Campus (200 Hawkins Dr.) is a 57‑bed department with the following spaces: Pediatric ED space with 13 rooms, including 2 dedicated trauma/resuscitation rooms and a procedural room. Main ED space includes 3 trauma/resuscitation rooms, an expanded Team Triage space, and 6 results waiting chairs. South Expansion space includes 12 enhanced multipurpose rooms and a calming room. Characteristic Duties of our Staff Nurses include but are not limited to: Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness. Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations. Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings. Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychosocial and socioeconomic factors to prescribe interventions to attain expected outcomes. Implements patient care plan according to patient priorities, including interventions identified through nursing diagnoses, and documents reports. Collaborates and integrates contributions of patients and families into multidisciplinary patient care plan. Develops, coordinates and implements transfer/discharge planning throughout the episode of care. Implements nursing interventions according to department, division, and/or unit policies, procedures, and protocols to maintain a safe environment for patients, visitors and staff; follows universal precautions. Percent of Time: 50 – 100% Schedule example: 50–100% positions available, 20–40 hours per week dependent on percentage of position. Rotating D/E/N shifts and rotating days off. 8/12 hour shifts available. Weekend and holiday rotating assignments required. Orientation duration may vary. Location: Regular salaried position at the University Campus ED in Iowa City, Iowa. Pay: Minimum $60,000 at 100% effort; salary varies based on experience and percent of effort. Shift differentials for evening, night, and weekend shifts. Premium pay for additional shifts >4 hours. Inpatient differential up to $10,000 per year. Education Required: Associate’s Degree in Nursing, Diploma in Nursing, Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Master’s of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader, or Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA). Licensure/Certification Requirements: License to practice nursing in the state of Iowa required by date of hire. Experience Requirements: Minimum of six months RN inpatient hospital nursing experience or completion of senior internship/preceptorship or at least 100 clinical hours on med/surg or step‑down unit. Proven capacity to function with a high degree of autonomy while actively collaborating within a multidisciplinary team. Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members. Successful history in building/facilitating interpersonal relationships involving patients, families, colleagues, and student-learners. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. General proficiency with computers. Desired Qualifications: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Master’s Degree in Nursing highly desired. If Baccalaureate degree not yet obtained, active enrollment in a BSN program desired. Experience in telemetry and/or neurology desired. Knowledge of university policies and procedures desired.
