Summary About the Position: This position is located at Brooke Army Medical Center in Fort Sam Houston, Texas. This is a Physician (Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation) position in anesthesiology service/pain management clinic with the Department of Defense located in the Pain Management Division of BAMC. - Directly supervise Physicians, PAs, Chiropractors, Chiropractic Assistants, Acupuncturists, Medical Massage Therapists, Movement Therapists, and others as required.
- Responsible for the examination, diagnosis, and treatment of patients who are referred primarily for comprehensive pain management and/or a functional restoration program in the outpatient setting and on the inpatient wards on a consultation basis.
- Evaluate, recommend, and coordinate appropriate pain and functional rehabilitation regimens for inpatients with multiple complicated problems referred by various inpatient services.
- Provide initiative and leadership for a comprehensive, integrative, interdisciplinary Pain Medicine practice model.
- Interpret and correlate laboratory and diagnostic procedures.
- Perform advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures as appropriate to treat acute and chronic pain (in the clinic as well as the Operating Room).
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position subject to pre-employment screening and random drug testing. Selectees will be required to consent to participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
- A pre-placement medical examination is required.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
- Moderate to heavy lifting up to 50 pounds is required.
- One-year supervisory probationary period required. A one-year probationary period is required if the selectee has not previously met this requirement.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
- Must be able to obtain and maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Red Cross. Advanced certification (e.g., ALS) does not supersede BLS.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959 must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- Direct Deposit of Pay is required.
- Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees.
- Recruitment or relocation incentives MAY be authorized for highly qualified candidates.

- Payment of Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs is not authorized, based on a determination that a PCS move is not in the Government interest.
- Position requires employee to wear a uniform and/or protective clothing.
- Medical malpractice liability insurance is not required for federal civilian healthcare providers as they are covered by the Federal Tort Claims Act (28 U.S.C. § 1346(b)) while acting within the scope of their employment.
