Scrub Technician - Operating Room Schedule

• 4x9-hour days
• Call rotations and weekends as needed

Position Overview

• Participates as a team member in the planning and implementation of nursing care for each patient
• Works collaboratively with medical, nursing, and ancillary services to provide safe patient care
• Demonstrates a professional, courteous manner
• Handles confidential patient and family information with discretion

Instrument Cleaning & Sterilization

• Cleans instruments and ensures sterility is achieved using appropriate procedures
• Recognizes successful completion of steam autoclave and automated high-level disinfectant units

Equipment & Supply Management

• Selects equipment and supplies in an organized manner based on surgical procedure
• Prepares instrument sets according to preference lists, patient history, and age
• Utilizes supplies cost-effectively
• Handles and operates sophisticated equipment
• Detects and readily adapts to changes in surgical procedures

Sterile Field

• Creates and maintains a sterile field
• Maintains aseptic technique at all times in accordance with AORN Standards
• Opens and handles sterile supplies properly
• Performs proper surgical hand scrubbing
• Dons sterile gown and gloves
• Sets up sterile field and receives sterile supplies from the circulator
• Assists in proper draping of the patient
• Initiates corrective measures when a break in sterile technique occurs

Patient Safety & Care

• Works with medical and nursing staff to provide safe patient care
• Uses care with sharps to prevent injury or contamination
• Follows policies and procedures for counts and maintains an adequate count of all countable items on the sterile field
• Initiates proper protocol when counts are incorrect
• Accurately draws up medication with proper labeling of all solutions and syringes
• Serves as a preceptor and mentor to new employees

Environmental Safety & Readiness

• Assesses surgical environment for safety, cleanliness, and compliance with regulatory and organizational standards
• Supports a state of continual service readiness
• Ensures a clean, safe, and orderly work and care environment

Required Skills & Certifications

• BLS certification through AHA or RQI specifically - required
• OR Tech licensure/certification - required
• Minimum 1 year of experience - required
