Job Description Provides comprehensive rehabilitation therapy assessment and treatment interventions for adult psychiatric inpatients in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams. Plans, develops, and implements individual and group therapy sessions. Conducts group and individual therapy, maintains accurate charting, manages supplies, supports community and donor relations, supervises interns and volunteers. Provides patient and/or family education regarding independent living skills and specialized clinical groups including music, drama, art therapy, dual diagnosis/substance abuse, and pain management. Responsibilities Conduct group and individual therapy with patients. Maintain accurate and up-to-date charting. Manage supplies and inventory. Support community and donor relations. Supervise interns and volunteers. Provide patient and/or family education on independent living skills. Develop and implement specialized clinical groups (music, drama, art therapy, dual diagnosis/substance abuse, pain management). Provide individualized care services for patients unable to attend group therapy. Develop and implement behavioral plans for individual patients. Plan and implement special events and programming for religious, national, or cultural holidays. Coordinate referrals to outdoor groups and lead movement and physical activities. Document assessments, treatment plans, and progress notes. Participate in development and distribution of patient education materials. Organize, maintain, and oversee distribution of patient welfare items. Develop hospital and community referrals for patient volunteer and job placements. Participate in rehab services program staff meetings, performance‑improvement committees, and lean‑management activities. Maintain program inventory and supplies. Participate in CPI training for staff and safety/security training for residents. Coordinate and evaluate clinical training programs for interns. Provide clinical supervision to interns and students. Participate in research studies related to rehab services. Attend in‑service training seminars and conferences. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor’s or Master’s degree required (per profession requirements). Certification or registration in field of expertise or eligibility (see required licenses/certifications). Two years (one year if internship completed) of experience working with adults in individual and group psychiatric interventions. Skills, knowledge, and ability in developmentally and age/population‑appropriate interventions. Ability to assess individual patients’ developmental level, general medical condition, psych‑social needs, and capabilities. Provide patients with opportunities to express their thoughts and feelings and support as part of their therapeutic support system. Demonstrate compassion and understanding to build rapport and trust with patients and families. Ability to communicate pertinent information and coordinate goals with medical staff for optimum health outcomes. Plan and facilitate therapy groups. Oral and written communication skills for medical record documentation, oral presentation, and conference presentations. Flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations. Preferred Qualifications Experience working with people who have acute/severe mental illness. Experience providing evidence‑based treatments to psychiatrically acute patients in a similar clinical setting. Experience in mentoring and supervision. Experience in program development.
