Medical Telemetry Registered Nurse (RN)

The Medical Telemetry Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care to patients requiring close cardiac monitoring and assessment. This position involves working in a fast-paced environment with a focus on patient stability and safety.

Shift Details

• Schedule: 3x12-hour shifts (7:00 PM - 7:30 AM)
• Every other weekend rotation required
• Blocked scheduling options available to be discussed with the manager

Qualifications

• Current RN license in Missouri or Compact RN license required
• ACLS, BLS, and NIHSS certifications required
• Experience with IV starts and telemetry monitoring is essential
• Proficient in electronic charting systems, specifically EPIC
• First-time travelers welcome

Patient Criteria

Patients accepted on this unit typically exhibit the following characteristics:

• Routine nursing care with an RN-to-patient ratio of 5:1
• Patients requiring nursing assessments and vital signs every 8 hours
• Patients needing cardiac monitoring and management for stable dysrhythmias
• Post-operative patients requiring closer observation than general medical-surgical units
• Patients with infectious diseases needing negative airflow isolation
• STEMI patients who have stabilized after 12-24 hours of ICU care
• Post-PTCA patients without hemodynamic instability or life-threatening arrhythmias
• Observation following pacemaker, defibrillator placements, or post-ablation
• Transfer of patients from ICU must be stable for at least 4 hours without pharmacologic interventions prior

Treatment and Care Procedures

The following treatments and procedures are performed in this unit:

• Routine fingerstick blood sugar monitoring
• Administration of stable IV medications, including vasoactive drips when needed for no more than 90 minutes
• Blood transfusions, fluid boluses, and other special care procedures as needed
• Physician-ordered procedures including thoracentesis, paracentesis, central line insertion, bone marrow aspiration, and chest tube insertion
