The nursing home care unit of 113 beds offers geriatric programming and the 150 domiciliary beds are the focus of programs in Substance Abuse Rehabilitation, Psychiatric Rehabilitation and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder care. Facility Address: 5000 West National Ave, Milwaukee, WI 52395RN ResponsibilitiesThe Registered Nurse (Spinal Cord Injury) works under the direction of an RN and reports to the Nurse Manager for Spinal Cord Injuries and will rely on preceptor to set workflow and identify responsibilities.Completes initial assessments and reassessments of assigned patients as directed.Completes plan of care for patients and updates plan of care based on assessments.Documents in a complete and comprehensive manner for all assessments, findings, education and interactions with patients or their family units.Administers medications in a safe and efficient manner following established policies.Inserts and manages peripheral intravenous access.Manages central venous access sites, infusion of continuous fluids and administers IV push medications under direct supervision of preceptor. (Note-can manage without observation of preceptor, once competency has been established/validated.)Completes admission and discharge of patients/residents in accordance with established unit policies.Directly responsible to the designated manager in the assigned area.Responsible and accountable for the provision of direct patient care and for the delivery of quality nursing care to a culturally diverse veteran patient population.Shall possess the knowledge and skills to effectively apply all aspects of the nursing process within a collaborative, interdisciplinary practice setting, which will then enable effective implementation of health promotion and prevention practices, management of acute and chronic illnesses, and attainment of optimal levels of functioning and/or support of the dying patient and significant others.Role responsibilities and accountabilities also include demonstration of knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age related needs of patients served in the assigned area of practice. This knowledge includes understanding changes associated with aging and principles of growth and development relevant to the adult and geriatric population.Spinal Cord Injury RN RequirementsMust have a full, active and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a State, Territory or commonwealth (i.e. Puerto Rico) of the United States or the District of Columbia.Must be a graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the ACEN or the CCNE at the time of graduation. In the case of graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing, possession of current, full, active and unrestricted registration will meet the requirement of graduation from an approved school of nursing.Must have at least two years' experience within the last three years of the specified specialty.
