The Department employs approximately 2,000 employees.**Description of Work**The Specialist's goal is to raise awareness, provide subject matter expertise, and promote whole-community efforts in animal and agriculture disaster prevention, protection, mitigation, preparedness, response, and recovery. This position supports strategies and activities that assess risks to animals, public health, agriculture, and food systems, along with efforts to enhance response capacity both within and outside their region, as assigned. This may include, but is not limited to, conducting site visits and risk assessments; developing community risk profiles; developing work relationships, and collaborating with government, non-government, private, and industry stakeholders; providing recommendations and best practices to stakeholders; developing and offering education and training to enhance agricultural and animal emergency preparedness; responding to emergencies and disasters as a member of the Department's agriculture incident management team; and inspecting animal contact exhibits at agricultural fairs. This position requires participation in training and related activities necessary to obtain qualifications to serve on the Department’s agriculture incident management team or as an agency representative for multi-agency coordination. This position is home-based, and a State Vehicle will be provided.
