Teen Programs Assistant The Teen Programs Assistant permanent part-time (PPT) position will work under the direction of full time Teen Program staff to provide quality programs, consistent customer service to the public, while also assisting with the oversight of all Teen Program processes and administrative tasks. These tasks may include but are not limited to database management, email correspondence with staff and patrons, file management, research and development of new programs, training development, inventory of support materials, marketing, outreach, and more. Additionally, the position will work directly in programs to provide support to participants and expand program offerings across the city. Types of programs will vary and may include but are not limited to: Summer camps Ater-school programs Education and life skills opportunities Field trips and excursions Special events and more About You: The ideal candidate for the Teen Programs Assistant permanent part-time (PPT) position is an enthusiastic, dependable, and community-minded professional who is passionate about engaging, mentoring, and supporting teens through creative, high-quality programs and experiences. The intent of this job description is to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed by employees in this job. Employees may be requested to perform job‑related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description. Program Delivery & Teen Engagement: Assist in the planning, coordination, and delivery of teen programs, camps, after-school activities, workshops, and special events Engage directly with teen participants to promote inclusion, build rapport, and create a positive, safe, and supportive environment Support the supervision of program participants during activities, field trips, and community events, ensuring adherence to safety and behavior expectations Serve as a positive role model by demonstrating professionalism, respect, and enthusiasm in all interactions with youth Assist in developing and implementing new programs that reflect current teen interests, community trends, and departmental goals Administrative & Operational Support: Assist full-time Teen Program staff with administrative tasks such as data entry, attendance tracking, and database management Support communication efforts by preparing and sending email correspondence to staff, parents, and program partners Maintain organized program files, inventories, and records in compliance with City standards Participate in collecting, recording, and analyzing program feedback and attendance data to support continuous improvement Assist with the development of training materials and resources for seasonal or part-time staff Marketing & Outreach: Support the creation and distribution of marketing materials and digital content to promote teen programs Represent Teen Programs at outreach events, community fairs, and schools to engage potential participants and partners Help ensure consistent use of Raleigh Teen Connect branding and messaging across all outreach efforts Facility & Equipment Support: Assist in maintaining program areas, ensuring they are safe, clean, and well-organized before and after use. Monitor and report any facility, equipment, or supply issues to the appropriate supervisor. Support the inventory, restocking, and distribution of program supplies and materials as needed. Team Collaboration & Professional Conduct: Work collaboratively with other Teen Program staff, community partners, and volunteers to deliver quality experiences. Attend scheduled trainings, staff meetings, and planning sessions as required. Adhere to all City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation and Cultural Resources Department policies and procedures, including those related to safety, customer service, and conduct. Operating City Vehicles: Transporting materials, participants, and staff in City vehicles This position requires the ability to safely operate and transport program participants, equipment, and materials using a variety of City of Raleigh non-CDL vehicles. Vehicles may include, but are not limited to, cars, SUVs, pickup trucks, passenger vans, cargo vans, and mini-buses. Candidates must possess, or have the ability to obtain, a valid driver’s license, maintain an acceptable driving record, and be comfortable driving vehicles of varying sizes and configurations as part of daily job responsibilities. Education and Experience: Less than a High School diploma; less than 1 year customer service, office support, recreation program implementation or related experience OR An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above, unless otherwise subject to any other requirements set forth in law or regulation. Licensing and Certifications: Valid North Carolina Class C Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 60 days of hire Preferred Qualifications: Associate degree or higher level of education preferred in Parks, Recreation and Tourism Management, Sports Management, Business Management Social Work or related field Specialized training/education and/or certifications related to working with youth and/or teens, such as: Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) Certified Parks and Recreation Executive (CPRE) Relevant experience working with teens with regards, to programming, planning, engagement and facilitation Valid North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver's License with a satisfactory driving record, or the ability to obtain within 90 days of hire Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Managing multiple projects and programs while engaging youth with diverse backgrounds Providing opportunities in various settings including but not limited to outdoor recreation, environmental education, after-schools, summer camps, life skills, and more Trip and logistics planning, with strong organizational skills for coordinating transportation, equipment, schedules, and risk management Creative programming, designing engaging, age-appropriate activities that balance fun, learning, and developmental outcomes Initiative and independence, operating as a self-starter who anticipates needs, solves problems proactively, and takes ownership of responsibilities Team collaboration and communication, working effectively with peers, partners, and the public, maintaining professionalism and positive energy in all interactions ADA and Other Requirements: Work Environment and Physical Effort: Medium: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Work Environment: Work is typically performed in an office or similar indoor setting. Employees may occasionally work in an outdoor environment or in a vehicle. Work Exposures: Work in this position does not require frequent environmental exposures.
