Truck Driver
Lyon County Highway Department is seeking a full-time Truck Driver. This is a full-time, non-exempt position starting at $20/hr. with benefits including paid time off and health/dental/vision insurance.
The Truck Driver is responsible for the operation of trucks and light construction equipment. A high school diploma (or equivalent) and a Commercial Driver's License are required for this position. Prior training and/or experience are preferred.
Successful candidate(s) will be required to pass a background check, pre-employment physical, pre-employment work screen and pre-employment drug screen.

Job Summary
This is a non-exempt job involving operation of trucks and light construction equipment.
The roles, responsibilities, job functions, knowledge, skills, and abilities set forth herein may be revised from time-to-time in order to comply with federal and state laws, departmental needs and the changing requirements for this position.
Essential Job Functions
- Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, citizens, coworkers and management.

- Perform inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and assist in the servicing and repair of same.
- Observe roads, bridges, culverts, ditches and road signs for maintenance needs and reports problem areas to the Road Supervisor.
- Control traffic passing near, in, or around work zones.
- Take actions to avoid potential hazards or obstructions, such as utility lines, other equipment, other workers, or falling objects.
- Turn in daily time sheets and mileage logs as required.
- Operate all sizes of trucks and light construction equipment for all construction and maintenance projects.
- Load and unload materials and supplies.
- Choose optimal transportation routes and appropriate speeds.
- Notify others of emergencies, problems, or hazards.
- Perform manual labor in working on concrete and bituminous patching and sealing.
- Check vehicles to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order.
- Inspect loads to ensure that cargo is secure and trapped.
- Observing, receiving, and otherwise obtaining information from all relevant sources.
- Lubricate, clean, maintain or repair machinery, equipment, or tools.
- Inspect, clean, maintain, and repair equipment, or report malfunctions to supervisors.
- Running, maneuvering, navigating, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment.
- Inspect equipment to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
- Observe distribution of material (paving, aggregate, etc.) to adjust material flow.
Intermittent Duties
- Perform related duties as assigned.
- May be required to attend seminars or training sessions.
Qualifications
Must possess appropriate Kansas Commercial Driver's License.
Experience: One year of satisfactory operation of road and construction equipment desired.
Education: High school diploma, G.E.D. or equivalent required. Additional equipment operation training desired.
Knowledge:
- Must be able to receive, interpret and follow verbal and written instructions. Required to read, write and speak English fluently, with the ability to speak a foreign language helpful.
- Knowledge of relevant equipment, policies, procedures, and strategies to promote safety for the protection of people, property, and institutions.
