UW Medical Center - Montlake - Rehab Therapies has an outstanding opportunity for a SPEECH LANGUAGE PATHOLOGIST 1 - Neonatal Intensive Care Unit/NICU (PER DIEM)

WORK SCHEDULE

• PER DIEM

• Minimum commitment of 4 shifts per month

• Additional scheduling opportunities are regularly available, with an average of 2-3 shifts per week beyond the minimum requirement.

PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU):

• This role will serve as a Neonatal Feeding Therapist to provide direct patient care and/or consultative services for the premature and/or medically complex infants in a Level IV Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), as referred by a licensed provider.

• Responsible for providing feeding/swallowing assessments for all infants <35 weeks gestation at birth.

• Assist to develop clinical programs and individualized feeding plans to facilitate safe, cue based oral feeding for each infant; implementing developmentally appropriate feeding/swallowing intervention services to minimize feeding challenges as warranted; actively collaborating with neonatology team regarding therapy needs in the NICU, oral feeding practices, premature infant development, and provision of developmental care.

• Confer with and coach families and caregivers regarding individualized feeding techniques to minimize impact of feeding challenges in their NICU infant.

• Participate in operational aspects, performance improvement, and quality improvement activities within the department.

• Provide input in formulating budget, assist in evaluation of departmental performance, and take action to remain in budget guidelines.

• Ensure that patient charges and documentation are accurate and entered on a timely basis.

• Participate in infection control, equipment training, compliance, safety and educational programs, both at the departmental and organizational level.

REQUIREMENTS

Licensed by the State of Washington as a Speech Language Pathologist.

A Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.

Equivalent education/experience.
