The department is directed by anesthesiologists who are board-certified in pain management. By joining the Pain Management team as a Medical Assistant, you will collaborate with fellow staff to create a welcoming, comfortable environment for patients, families and visitors. You will assist with rooming patients, answering in-basket messages, helping the provider with procedures and scheduling outpatient procedures. All your work helps ensure the best possible health outcomes. Additionally, you will receive ample opportunities to enhance your skills through cross training and floating to other areas, gain hands-on experience and explore advanced positions at Cleveland Clinic.A caregiver in this position works Monday-Friday from 8:00AM – 4:30PM.A caregiver who excels in this role will:Assist with performing screening and treatments by gathering information related to health maintenance, collecting specimens and documenting patient care.Update health maintenance at patient visits, accurately identify medication changes and update allergy information at each visit.Monitor and communicate changes in patient condition.Administer specific medications under the direction of the provider.Maintain equipment and medical supplies, including reordering, stocking, cleaning and troubleshooting.Maintain examination areas.Assist in pre-visit planning by updating the health maintenance tab.Perform administrative or clerical duties as assigned, including filing, reception, scheduling, data entry and patient registration.Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:Graduate from an accredited Medical Assisting ProgramMilitary training as a Hospital Corpsman (HM), Combat Medic (68W) or Medical Service Technician (4N0X1) will be consideredCurrent demonstrated clinical proficiencyCompletion of a clinical externship OR extensive clinical experienceBasic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) or American Red Cross required within new hire periodPreferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include:CMA, NCMA or CCMA certificationSuccessful completion of a CC ExternshipPhysical Requirements:Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.May require extended periods of standing, walking or sitting.Good visual acuity through normal or corrected vision.Light Work - Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly (Constantly: activity or condition exists 2/3 or more of the time) to move objects.Even though the weight lifted may be only a negligible amount, a job should be rated Light Work: (1) when it requires walking or standing to a significant degree; or (2) when it requires sitting most of the time but entails pushing and/or pulling of arm or leg controls; and/or (3) when the job requires working at a production rate pace entailing the constant pushing and/or pulling of materials even though the weight of those materials is negligible.Note: The constant stress and strain of maintaining a production rate pace, especially in an industrial setting, can be and is physically demanding of a worker even though the amount of force exerted is negligible.Personal Protective Equipment:Follows standard precautions using personal protective equipment as required.The policy of Cleveland Clinic Health System and its system hospitals (Cleveland Clinic Health System) is to provide equal opportunity to all of our caregivers and applicants for employment in our drug free environment.
