Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Tele/PCU position at a Level II Trauma facility in Bismarck, ND, requiring PCU experience and the ability to read and interpret cardiac strips.

Details

• Acute care stepdown/PCU unit in a Level II Trauma hospital setting
• 32-bed Med/Tele unit with a strong cardiac and telemetry focus
• Patient population includes adults and geriatrics with diagnoses such as cardiac cath, EP studies, pacemakers, ETOH, COVID BiPAP, pneumonia, sepsis, influenza, and acute-on-chronic conditions as well as general surgical patients with cardiac history
• Nurse-to-patient ratios are 1:4–5 (with occasional 1:5–6 on nights); PCU-level overflow patients are cared for at a 1:3 ratio
• RNs are required to titrate drips including Amiodarone, Cardizem, Heparin, Nitroglycerin, Nipride, Lasix, and low-dose Dopamine
• RNs are responsible for reading and interpreting their own telemetry strips; portable monitors, in-room monitors, and a telemetry tech at the nurses' station are available
• RT equipment on the unit includes BiPAP, trachs, and Airvo; RNs are expected to troubleshoot this equipment
• Charting is done in Epic (experience preferred)
• 12-hour shifts, days (7a–7p) and nights (7p–7a) available; rotating shifts will not occur more than weekly
• Every other weekend required
• Every other holiday required
• Travelers are first to float; floating includes all areas as helping hands, PCU for full patient load, MS for full patient assignment, and some ER holds/boarding
• No on-call or standby requirement
• 13-week contract

Requirements

• Active ND RN license or Compact (NLC) RN license currently in hand; pending licenses not accepted
• Current BLS and ACLS certifications required; pending certifications not accepted
• Minimum 2 years of RN experience required
• PCU experience is required
• Ability to read and interpret cardiac telemetry strips required
• A valid driver's license is required for consideration
• 2 professional references required: one supervisor from within the last 12 months and one peer or supervisor from within the last 3 years, both including dates of employment and eligibility for rehire
• Candidates must reside more than 50 miles from the facility to be eligible for this position
• Candidates may not currently be employed (full-time, part-time, or PRN) by any CommonSpirit, CHI, or Dignity-affiliated facility; candidates who worked PRN through an outside staffing firm will be considered

Additional Information

• Charge nurses are present on both shifts and may occasionally carry a light patient load of 2–3 patients
• Nurse aides/patient care techs are available with a goal ratio of 1 tech per 10 patients
• Unit-specific orientation consists of 2 twelve-hour shifts (Friday and Saturday of the first week), with independent practice beginning that Sunday
• Any color scrubs are acceptable
• RTO of 7 or fewer days per 13-week contract must be requested upfront; additional RTO will not be approved after the contract begins
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply
• A manager interview is required as part of the selection process
