Instrument Technician

Must be able to install, test, calibrate, troubleshoot, overhaul and repair electrical, controlling, indicating and measuring instrument devices to ensure specified operating performance using hand tools, testing and calibrating instruments and equipment and precision measuring instruments. Ability to read and understand manuals, wiring or instrumentation schematics and testing specifications. Must be able to troubleshoot electric motors, install wiring to circuits, etc. Must have some knowledge of electrical schematics and PLCs. Other duties may be assigned.

Specific duties and responsibilities include:

• Layout, fabricate and install tubing and tub trays.
• Apply knowledge of mathematics to instrumentation.
• Read blueprints, schematics and loop drawings and prepare job reports.
• Assemble and disassemble all types of electronic process controls, pneumatic controls and hydraulic systems and components.
• Calibrate equipment using common calibration procedures.
• Understand the principles of pH and redox and equipment needed to measure them and be able to control the pH and redox of a liquid.
• Work with and understand Ohm's Law and Kirchhoff's Law and with Diodes, capacitors and other electrical components.
• Understand steam and how it reacts to different situations.
• Work with the principles of chemistry and physics required in instrumentation.
• Troubleshoot and check out electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic systems using proper test equipment.
• Understand fundamental instrumentation loops and how they function as a loop.
• Understand common types of chemical plant process equipment.
• Apply the procedures for measuring pressure level, flow, temperature, weight, density, heat flux, humidity and moisture, etc.
• Maintain current electrician's license or identification card to meet state regulations.
• Other duties as assigned.

Physical demands include sitting, standing, walking, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, talking, hearing, tasting, smelling, lifting and moving up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required include close, distance, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Qualifications required for this position include:

• Education no minimum education requirements.
• Experience 4 years of Journeyman level experience.
• Certification/License NCCER, a Valid TWIC Card and Driver's License.
