Health Information Techn II - Birth Records Completion

Position Overview Job: Health Information Technician II – Birth Records Completion (HIT II) at Cedars‑Sinai. This role involves specialized health information activities related to patient records, privacy and use, with a focus on birth registration and certificate processing for patients born within the Medical Center, in compliance with the Department of Public Health requirements. Responsibilities Perform birth registration activities for birth certificate processing as required by the Department of Public Health. Obtain required documentation from parents, coordinate with vital records, nursing social work, attorneys, and other stakeholders. Enter birth certificate information into the Electronic Birth Registry System (EBRS) accurately and submit certificates electronically. Interact with patients with sensitivity and professionalism, demonstrating excellent interviewing skills. Respond to internal and external requests for assistance and monitor compliance with documentation completion timeliness standards. Query and research multiple hospital systems to assess compliance with documentation requirements and update status of documentation work queues. Qualifications High School diploma or GED required. Associate degree or college courses in a related field preferred. A minimum of 2 years' experience working in Health Information, Medical Records or a related field required. Prior birth registration, patient interaction, and internal and external customer interaction experience are strongly preferred. Knowledge of State of California, Department of Public Health – Vital Records guidelines and processes highly desired. Registered Health Info Tech (RHIT) credential preferred. Experience and Skills Sought Strong medical terminology skills. Basic knowledge of ICD‑10. Attention to detail, advanced decision‑making and high analytic skills. Demonstrated proficiency with Microsoft Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.). Detailed knowledge of the medical record content and chart organization. Detailed knowledge of documentation and privacy regulatory standards, required. Strong customer service and communication skills. English language proficiency, written and spoken.
