Staff Product Designer (Grant OS)

About the role We’re hiring a Staff Product Designer to own GrantOS, the foundational platform layer every other product area at Instrumentl sits on top of. Reporting to our Head of Design, you'll own design end-to-end across Platform (the data layer, MCP, and BI) and Core (Tracker, Tasks, Reports, and Integrations), the two interdependent areas that define how grant professionals experience Instrumentl as a system and not just a set of features. This is a chance to think in systems, drive genuinely zero-to-one work where the right answer isn't obvious yet, and set the standard for how the whole design org approaches platform design. What you'll do Own GrantOS end-to-end Lead design across GrantOS Platform and Core, from discovery and research through shipping and iteration Shape how grant professionals interact with Instrumentl as a platform: task management, reporting, integrations, and the data relationships that span the full grant lifecycle Drive zero-to-one product development in greenfield spaces where the problem isn't fully defined, and help define it Set the platform design standard Define the interaction patterns and design system foundations that every other product area inherits Raise the quality bar across Instrumentl's design system and coach other designers Act as a force multiplier for the broader design team, shaping how the org operates Research and strategic partnership Conduct and synthesize user research independently, translating ambiguous user needs into clear product direction Partner as a true strategic peer to your PM and engineering lead, bringing a point of view and driving alignment across product, engineering, and GTM What we're looking for Required 8+ years of product design experience, with meaningful time at senior or staff level Proven track record owning complex B2B product areas end-to-end, including multi-entity workflows where data relationships, user roles, and cross-team collaboration intersect 0-to-1 product ownership: you've started from a problem rather than a spec, and made good calls under uncertainty Strong systems thinking and Figma/prototyping craft, deep involvement in user research from planning through synthesis, and the ability to influence product vision rather than just execute it Nice to have B2B SaaS background, especially in complex or enterprise-adjacent systems Experience with agentic or AI-powered product surfaces, and already using AI tools in your design practice Design systems experience: defining patterns, not just using them Exposure to compliance, data integrity, or workflow-heavy domains Experience mentoring or coaching other designers Familiarity with the nonprofit or social impact sector Compensation & Benefits For US-based candidates, the target base salary range is $210,000 to $245,000 , plus equity. Final compensation is determined based on experience, skillset, scope, interview performance, and geographic location.
