Early Learning Center Assistant Teacher

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit, charitable organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. Family YMCA of Black Hawk County's Early Learning Center (ELC) is seeking an Assistant Teacher who has a love for working with children, ages 6 weeks to 5-years-old. You must be outgoing, motivated, compassionate, patient, creative, playful, and dependable. Under the guidance of the Early Learning Center Director, and the Assistant Teacher is responsible for carrying out the day-to-day tasks in their assigned program room.

Essential functions include supporting lead teachers, assisting with daily lesson/activity plans, record keeping, room cleanliness, behavior management techniques, diapering, potty training, taking children to the bathroom, observations and evaluations of each child, flexibility and adaptability, positive communication with parents/guardians, co-workers, and supervisors, participation in special events, program activities, staff meetings, and staff training, learning and implementing emergency procedures, and supporting the mission of the YMCA and incorporating YMCA character development values.

Qualifications include a high school diploma, 1-2 years of experience in a licensed childcare facility, certifications required within 30 days of hire, clear criminal background check, ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of children and individuals, and basic computer competencies.

Work environment and physical demands include standing, walking, running, sitting, reaching, moving around the work environment, lifting and/or moving up to 40 pounds, and specific vision abilities. Compensation is $12.50 - $14.00 per hour.
